REACHING OUT
chapter 65:
[Todd quickly carries Tea through their new home.]
Tea: Todd, slow down. I'd like to see what your house looks like before I agree to move in with you.
Todd: It's our house. You're moving in. Decision's been made. Now, I have to put you down. You weigh a ton.
Tea: You have such a sweet way with words.
Todd: You know what I mean.
Tea: You think I've gained weight.
[Entering their bedroom, Todd gently places Tea on their new bed.]
Todd: I think you're about to refuse to have sex with me because of something I didn't even say.
Tea: I already asked you to be patient with me.
Todd: After we're both naked, if you're not in the mood, I won't push it.
Tea: Maybe I'm not ready to get naked with you.
Todd: I've seen what you look like since everything happened.
Tea: That was a disaster.
Todd: I'll have to take care of things for you again.
Tea: I certainly didn't feel the romance in that moment. Did you?
Todd: It didn't turn me on while I was doing it. It won't turn me off, either. You're out of luck, if you want me to stop thinking you're hot just because you can't stand in front of me and get in my face anymore.
Tea: You never liked it when I did that in the past.
Todd: You're wrong about that. I like that you don't believe me when I'm lying to you. I like that you tell me off when I do something that pisses you off. I like that you're not afraid to tell me when I'm being a jerk.
Tea: Do you really?
Todd: I like that what we have is real. It isn't about other people. It isn't about what I can buy you. It isn't because you're so desperate you're just settling for me.
Tea: Go and get my wheelchair.
Todd: You don't need it right now.
Tea: I want to see the house.
Todd: Later.
Tea: Todd...
Todd: There's something else we need to do that's more important.
Tea: I'm not ready.
Todd: You're more ready than I am.
Tea: What exactly do you have in mind?
Todd: I want to be with you, Tea.
Tea: I need you to be patient.
Todd: We can wait to have sex. I don't want to wait anymore for this.
Tea: What?
Todd: When we split Llanview together, do you remember that first night?
Tea: Of course I do.
Todd: We talked and yelled. We got a lot of junk out.
Tea: It was a very emotional night.
Todd: It was more than just the night.
Tea: I remember being surprised when we realized the sun was already rising and we hadn't even tried to sleep yet.
Todd: You talked me into getting into that bed with you. You swore nothing would happen. Then, before I knew it, you were all over me.
Tea: I remember you making the first move.
Todd: I was just trying to get comfortable.
Tea: If I recall correctly, your attempts to get comfortable included placing your tongue in my mouth.
Todd: My tongue is definitely comfortable in your mouth.
Tea: I'm not ready for this.
Todd: We didn't do it that first night.
Tea: We came close.
Todd: You yawned. I thought you were bored.
Tea: I was exhausted.
Todd: I hate it when chicks fall asleep on me in the middle of doing that.
Tea: I didn't fall asleep until after we agreed to postpone our desires and get some sleep.
Todd: My desires never agreed to that deal.
Tea: Neither did mine.
Todd: Yours were snoring.
Tea: I fell asleep desperately wanting you. I awoke the same way.
Todd: I remember that look on your face when you first woke up. You were scared.
Tea: When I first woke up, you were still sleeping.
Todd: I woke up before you did.
Tea: I let you think that.
Todd: You were faking? What else were you faking?
Tea: Believe me, that was the only thing I needed to fake. I didn't think you'd be okay knowing that I spent hours watching you sleep.
Todd: I spent hours watching you before I fell asleep.
Tea: I guess we do have something in common, after all.
Todd: We're both weird?
Tea: I don't think it's weird.
Todd: We're alone now, Tea. No one will walk in on us here. We can do what we did that night again, without all the yelling, unless you really want to yell at me first.
Tea: I'm not in the mood to yell.
Todd: What are you in the mood for?
Tea: I desire you, you know that. I'm just not ready.
Todd: Are you ready to watch me sleep?
Tea: Is that what you want?
Todd: I want to watch you sleep. If you want to watch me, too, I'm okay with that.
Tea: Are you?
Todd: It's different with you. With anyone else, I would hate thinking they're watching me. It's okay if you watch me.
Tea: You need to get my wheelchair first.
Todd: You don't need it.
Tea: I do, Todd. Without that chair, I have no mobility.
Todd: You have me.
Tea: I enjoy being in your arms, but I need my chair. Without it I feel trapped.
Todd: Do you feel trapped with me?
Tea: Of course not.
Todd: Maybe you're only with me because you think you can't do any better. Maybe you hate yourself so much, you're punishing yourself by being with me again.
Tea: Being with you is not punishment.
Todd: I've been told it is by other people.
Tea: I don't care about anyone else. Being with you is like having my wheelchair with me.
Todd: Because I carry you around?
Tea: Because I feel free when I'm with you.
Todd: That's a lie.
Tea: My legs were paralyzed. My wheelchair freed me. My heart was paralyzed. You freed me.
Todd: I think that's the sappiest thing you've ever said to me.
Tea: It's true. I'm scared of what the future will be. It comforts me knowing that we'll face it together.
to be continued...
