chapter 6:
Tea: Another chance to do what exactly?
Todd: You have to answer my questions first.
Tea: I don't have to do anything. Right now, I'm choosing not to continue this dead-end conversation with you. Leave!
Todd: You can't toss me out.
Tea: Give me one good reason why I shouldn't.
Todd: Because you still love me.
Tea: Give me a reason that's actually true.
Todd: Are you saying you hate me now?
Tea: It is possible for one's feelings to be something other than love or hate.
Todd: You love me.
Tea: I loved the man I was married to a long time ago. I haven't encountered that man in years.
Todd: I'm the same creep I always was.
Tea: That creep had one of the biggest hearts I've ever had the pleasure of almost glimpsing.
Todd: Almost? I poured it out to you every day.
Tea: Let me guess...every time you demanded I get you another beer, you were really saying you loved me. Am I right?
Todd: I learned that from my old man.
Tea: Is Peter the reason you're here?
Todd: I told you, I came because of Viki.
Tea: I don't believe that.
Todd: Okay...Viki and the bastard that made me call him Dad.
Tea: What happened?
Todd: I can't talk about this.
Tea: Not even with me?
Todd: I'm trying!
Tea: From my vantage point, not very hard.
Todd: I'm hard, all right. Want to see?
Tea: Why are you purposely trying to sabotage this?
Todd: It's what I do.
Tea: If you want my help, in whatever way you need my help, with whatever you need my help with, you'll need to grow up and stop hiding behind your crass comments.
Todd: I thought you liked my crass comments.
Tea: You thought wrong.
Todd: It got me into your pants before.
Tea: Is that what you want now? Is that why you came?
Todd: Will you let me?
Tea: Will I let you use my body to distract yourself from the pain in your heart?
Todd: What heart?
Tea: You used to have one.
Todd: It got ripped out when you walked out on me. I never got it back.
Tea: Clearly, you're in pain. Stop running and tell me what happened.
Todd: You don't want to know.
Tea: I do.
Todd: Maybe I don't want you to know.
Tea: If that's the case, why come here and so blatantly display your pain for me?
Todd: It's all an act. I just wanted you to feel sorry for me so you'd give me a chance.
Tea: I am giving you a chance. My patience, however, is quickly being depleted.
Todd: Viki's really messed up.
Tea: In what way?
Todd: She found out the kid she raised wasn't her kid. She meets this stranger that is her kid. And, then, she finds out her kid is her kid, after all. But, the stranger is still her kid, too. Who wouldn't be messed up after that?
Tea: True. Does she really need a lawyer, or was that a lie?
Todd: This guy she knew a long time ago, a guy that used to be dead, but isn't anymore, showed up. He was the one who was playing musical babies with her kids.
Tea: Do you want her to sue him?
Todd: Could she do that?
Tea: I would need more information.
Todd: He was the leader of some stupid cult.
Tea: A cult? Was Viki a member?
Todd: I don't know. I don't think so.
Tea: You didn't ask her?
Todd: I got the hell out of there as soon as I heard the guy's name.
Tea: Why? Do you know him?
Todd: Peter...
[Todd pauses, anxiety overwhelming him. Within seconds, he's out of his chair and rushing toward the doorway of the conference room.]
Todd: See you around, Delgado.
Tea: Todd, wait!
[Todd stops but continues facing away from her.]
Tea: You don't have to leave.
Todd: I thought I could do this with you. It was a stupid idea.
Tea: We don't have to talk about this right now. Don't go.
[Todd turns toward her.]
Todd: If I stay, you know what will happen.
Tea: It wouldn't be right for me to have sex with you.
Todd: What does being right have to do with having sex?
Tea: I'm in a relationship.
Todd: He doesn't make you feel, the way I do.
Tea: He makes me feel cared about.
Todd: I care about you, Delgado.
Tea: I need more. I need someone who isn't afraid to show me how he feels.
Todd: I would show you, but you just said you don't want me to have sex with you on that big table over there.
Tea: I didn't say that, exactly.
[Todd looks intently at Tea's eyes, gauging her reaction as he slowly moves closer and closer to her.]
Tea: We can't have sex. As long as you understand that, we can kiss.
Todd: You don't think kissing the creep you used to be married to counts as cheating?
Tea: I'll deal with my conscience later. Right now, if you need my touch, if you need my intimacy, to help you get through this, I can't turn you down.
[Todd brings his hand to her cheek and lightly caresses her soft skin. As he brings his lips to hers, they both close their eyes, savoring the first intimate contact they've shared in months.]
