FALLING AGAIN
chapter 04:

[Tea takes her groom's hand in her own, trying to reassure him, along with herself, that their uninvited guest won't ruin their wedding.]

Tea: Edgar, this is my former husband, Todd Manning. Todd, this is my future husband, Edgar Martinez.

Edgar: Why didn't you tell me you invited your ex-husband to walk you down the aisle?

Tea: Todd impulsively decided on his own to attend our wedding. I didn't even know he knew we were getting married. He came to offer us his blessing.

Todd: Like hell!

Tea: Todd...

Todd: Don't give me that look. I didn't come here to give you away. I came to get you back.

[Antonio and Cristian Vega, sitting in the front pew, on Tea's side of the church, hear Todd's loud declaration and disobey their mother's insistence that they allow Tea to handle the situation herself.

They quickly stand up and approach Todd. Each grabs one of his arms. He immediately begins to struggle against them.]

Antonio: Come on, Manning. No one invited you. It's time for you to leave.

[Todd shrugs off their hold on him.]

Todd: I'll decide when I'm leaving and who I'm taking with me.

Tea: It won't be me that you'll be taking. I've made my decision.

Edgar: What's really going on here?

Tea: Todd hates to lose me, even though he doesn't actually want me.

Todd: I told you...

Tea: You told me everything I needed to know while we were stranded on that island.

Todd: I didn't mean any of that junk. Now, forgive me and let's get out of here.

Tea: No!

Todd: Does he have something on you? Is he blackmailing you?

Tea: He loves me and I love him.

Todd: You love me.

Tea: I know what love is now, and what it isn't.

Todd: What's that supposed to mean?

Tea: Love isn't meant to be a solitary activity. It's meant to be shared.

Todd: You want me to humiliate myself even more by saying it? Okay, I love you. Is that enough? Do you want more?

Tea: I want genuine love, not simple words only said out of desperation.

Todd: You think that was simple? You think that was easy for me? I'm standing here in front of a bunch of people I don't know, letting you make a fool out of me. And, the few people here that I do know, I hate, so you can stop telling me this is simple. Everything is so fucked up right now, worse than it ever was.

Tea: I can't do this again. I can't give up everything so you can feel safe for a little while.

Todd: Why not?

Tea: Because I gave everything to you that I had to give. It wasn't enough. It will never be enough.

Todd: You can't give up on us.

Tea: You gave up on us when you left me for another woman. Please, just accept that we'll never be together again.

Todd: No!

Tea: You don't have a choice. I'm not available anymore.

[Tea looks toward Edgar, wondering if that's still even true.]

Edgar: Who do you really want to be with, Tea?

[Tea responds without one second's hesitation.]

Tea: You.

[Todd, equally without hesitation, drops to his knees in front of his ex-wife. With her groom and a church full of their guests witnessing, he again proves to Tea that he will never stop surprising her.]

Todd: Marry me.

to be continued...
