FALLING AGAIN
chapter 03:

[Tea rushes from the room, more determined than ever that today she will be getting married and putting Todd Manning behind her forever.

As Tea approaches her brother, he immediately discerns that something has changed from when he spoke to her a few minutes earlier.]

Del: Tea, what's wrong?

Tea: Nothing. Nothing and no one will ruin this chance for me, not this time.

[Del continues to be perplexed by the noticeable change in his sister's mood, until he notices Todd approaching them.]

Del: Manning, I should have known.

Todd: Yeah, you should have. What kind of bodyguard are you, letting her body out of your sight?

Del: I'm not my sister's bodyguard.

Todd: Your her maid of honor. I heard. I just hope my sister doesn't hear about this. I don't want her emasculating me, like Tea's doing to you, the next time she decides to shuffle down the aisle.

Tea (to Del): Ignore him. He's leaving.

Todd: We have to talk.

Tea: We've done that. Now, it's time for me to marry the man of my dreams.

Todd: You and I both know who's got you pinned down on a beach in your dreams.

Tea: The nightmares of my past are behind me.

[Tea ignores the pained expression on Todd's face, caused by her words and, as casually as she can, walks away from her ex-husband.

Moments later, Tea steps into view of the wedding guests and her groom. As the music begins to play, Del takes his place next to his sister, more uncertain than ever that she's truly ready to put her past behind her and commit fully to a future with someone new.]

Del (whispering): Don't do this if it's just to get back at Manning.

Tea: I'm doing this for me. I deserve happiness. That's what I intend to have. Now, walk me down the aisle and stand next to me while I finally get this right for the first time in three tries.

Del: Whatever you say, Tea. I just hope you know what you're doing.

Tea: I know exactly what I'm doing, what I'm giving up, and what I'm gaining.

[As they begin to slowly walk down the aisle together, Tea's body becomes more rigid as she senses Todd's presence at her opposite side.

Soft gasps rise from the few people in the church who know the identity of the strange man joining Tea and Del on their walk down the aisle.]

Todd: Delgado...

Tea: I'm walking down the aisle at my wedding, Todd.

Todd: I don't care.

Tea: Don't I know it.

Todd: You know what I mean.

Tea: I never know what you mean, until the truth comes out in the end. We've had enough ends to our relationship. Allow me to finally have the kind of beginning I deserve to the rest of my life.

Todd: You're making a mistake.

Tea: You're making a fool of yourself.

Todd: That never stopped me before, when it came to you. I don't care how many over-dressed people are staring at me right now. I can't let you do this to us.

Tea: There is no us. There hasn't been an us since you chose to leave me behind on that island.

[As they reach the end of the long aisle, Tea looks into the eyes of her confused groom. She takes a deep breath and hopes that no one she cares about will be hurt as the next few minutes awkwardly unfold.]

to be continued...
