FALLING AGAIN
chapter 02:
[Tea quickly turns in the direction of her ex-husband as she feels the anger rising that she thought she had put behind her months ago, but now knows still boils deep inside her.]
Tea: Get out!
Todd: Don't I get to kiss the bride?
Tea: You can kiss my ass, you fucking bastard!
Todd: Is that any way to talk when you're wearing white on your wedding day? Should you even be wearing white?
[Tea rushes forward and pushes on his chest, trying to push him toward the door, as she unleashes a verbal barrage in Spanish that causes Todd's smirk to widen, knowing that he can still get a passionate response from his ex-wife.
As his back hits against the closed door, Todd spins them around so that he has Tea backed against the door.]
Todd: Are you done screaming at me about what a bastard I am?
Tea: I haven't even begun.
Todd: Too bad. It's my turn to talk.
Tea: I'm not interested in listening. I'm getting married today.
Todd: I know.
Tea: To a man...a real man. A man who knows how to give and receive love. A man who knows the meaning of the word respect. A man who I intend to spend the rest of my life with.
Todd: There's been a change of plans.
Tea: No, Todd, not this time. This time, my life is going on as planned, without you. If you came here intending to turn my world upside down, thinking I would give up everything for you again, you made a grave error in judgment. This time, no matter what you offer in exchange for my soul, I won't choose to deal with the devil.
Todd: You never used to see me as the devil.
Tea: My vision cleared considerably after you left me stranded on a deserted island. Now, get out, before I have you forcibly removed.
Todd: You're not even going to listen to my excuses? I've got a bunch of good ones this time.
Tea: I've got no more time to waste on you. I'm getting married in two minutes. If you wanted to plead your case, you waited too damn long this time.
Todd: I thought you lawyers were into last minute revelations. I remember that time you waited until the last minute, when the judge was about to give my kid away, before you waltzed into the courtroom and saved our family.
Tea: It wasn't our family. I was never a genuine part of your family because you would never allow me that luxury, no matter how hard I tried to make that pathetic sham of a marriage work. Today, I'm getting married for real. No business agreement. No phony mental illnesses. No lies. No deceit.
Todd: So, you told the lucky guy that you're still totally in love with me?
Tea: I'm not in love with you.
Todd: You never could lie to me without me knowing the truth.
Tea: The truth isn't whatever demented reality is playing in your warped mind. The reality this time is that I don't choose you.
Todd: You have to.
Tea: Are you not giving me a choice? Are you going to force me to go with you?
Todd: I was hoping I wouldn't have to.
Tea: Using force is the only way you'll be able to get me to walk out on my life this time.
Todd: Just give me a few minutes to explain things to you and you'll see leaving with me is what you want.
Tea: I don't have a few minutes.
Todd: Sure, you do. They can't do anything out there until the chick in white shows up.
Tea: If I don't show up out there within the next minute, my brother will come looking for me. He'll arrest you.
Todd: For doing what? I'm just talking to my ex-wife. I get to do that whenever I want.
Tea: Not anymore.
Todd: You have to give me another chance, Tea.
Tea: I don't have to do anything, and I won't be doing anything for you ever again. You'll have to learn to fight your battles yourself from now on. I quit.
Todd: You can't quit on me.
Tea: Why not? You quit on me, on us, when you left me on that island.
Todd: You walked out on me first, remember?
Tea: I didn't leave you on a deserted island where your life was in jeopardy. I didn't leave you for someone else.
Todd: It's probably against the rules for you to think about what you did with that preacher, while you're in a church dressed like that, but it still happened.
Tea: I never chose Andrew over you. As soon as you gave me a choice, I chose you.
Todd: But, you did cheat on me while we were married, and with a preacher. I get to screw up twenty more times before we're even. I've been keeping score.
Tea: This conversation is over. This relationship is over.
Todd: I can't let that happen.
Tea: You don't have a choice. This time I'm the one making the final decision about our relationship. I choose for it to be over. Good-bye, Todd. I would wish you a happy life but you and I both know that you will never allow yourself that. I, however, intend to have just that.
[Todd allows Tea to push him away from her. She quickly turns, yanks open the door and storms out of the room.]
