The Peach Blossom jellyfish is a freshwater jellyfish.Like mosts jellyfish it has a series of tentacles around the edge of the bottom of its body. The reason this creature was given its name is because it looks like a peach blossom in full bloom. These tentacles are for paralyzing and eating prey. The tentacles inject poison into the oncoming prey. This is the same for the marine cousin jellyfishes.

Size

The Peach Blossom jellyfish is also one of the smallest multicelled organisms that live in bodies of freshwater. As you can see in the picture above, the Peach Blossom jellyfish is just alittle bit smaller than a penny. This also makes it much harder to spot the little jellyfish. This jellyfish doesn't have many predators , and eats algae, zoo plankton, and other smaller organisms.

Yes or No?

Even though the Peach Blossom jellyfish is classified as a jellyfish many scientists contemplate whether it really is or not. There has been much talk on whether not the Peach blossom jellyfish is a member of the Hydrozoa(jellyfish) or a member of the Hydra family. The only difference between the two classes is that they have different sized velums( round cap that is considerd the body).
