Artist Bio

Hi,
My name is Andrea. I live in Northern California, but I was born in So Calif, near those beautiful beaches. I have been up north for 13 yrs, and though I miss my beaches, I love the slower pace. I am the proud mother of 4, a halfhearted writer, a former working artist, and a general jill of all trades. When people ask me what I what can I do, I roll off a list of things as mundane as Clerk, to as unique as Belly Dancing.
I have been interested in art since I was three years old. My parents put some paper and pens in my hands and I have been drawing ever since. That is forty plus years now.
For me, art has never been stick figures or swirling paint. I wanted things to look as close to real as I could get them. Of course as a child that was not possible, but I tried. I won a one year scholarship with the Famous Artists school when I was 13. But, kids being kids, I didn't take advantage of everything it offered me. While far from a prodigy, I was quite good at most artist venues I tried. For two years I made my living as a commission artist, doing mostly southwestern art.
As an adult, I took some college classes in art. Classes from ceramic, to oils, to live figure drawing, and metal scupture. But for the most part I am a watercolorist. Right now I am doing some small paintings to fit doll box interiors.
Recently, I took my love of dolls and merged it with my love of art. I began recreating Jakks Pacific dolls into faeries and mermaids. When I can convince myself to redo my favorite doll, Barbie, I will try those as well.
Anyway, that's me. I hope you enjoy my dolls as much as I enjoyed making them.
