Canvey Lifeguards always carry out
Beach Patrols along the sea front between Chapman Sands Yacht Club Jetty
and Thorney Bay Holiday Park. The aim of these patrols is to keep an eye
out for any dangers or anybody that is in trouble.
During a patrol we will have around 4
Watches placed along the sea front. The main one will be the tower which
has a view of the whole patrol zone and the swimming pools, the second is
either at Labworth Cafe or on the corner of Thorney Bay, while the third
will be by the Beach Pool to the left of the station and the final
patrol will be out on the boat which will be making its way up and down
the sea front keeping any jet skiers or racing yachts away from the beach
whilst keeping an eye out for swimmers and inflatable's that may be
drifting. Another task of the Boat Patrol is that after a large ship has
passed a heavy wash may occur. the boat should follow the wash along the
shore line keeping at a safe distance watching for bathers and others who
may unexpectedly find themselves in difficulty. Each patrol will consist
of a minimum of two members. No Lifeguard should
patrol alone.

Each patrol is in contact with each
other via VHF Marine Band Radio which the club has licenses for through either Channel 10 or 16
and
is equipped with certain pieces of rescue equipment that may be
needed.
