Today
Our study site today looks different. Nearly half of the mesa has been taken by the cement company for sand and gravel. The cement company is currently located in the south west quarter of the river bottom so in that area there aren't any plants just machinery and piles of gravel. In the river bottom now there are many more non-native plants, and there is a lot of recently disturbed area where nothing grows but annual weeds and grass. Where the tomato field was on the mesa top there is now a school called Montgomery High and the Palm Pacifica housing tract. There are a lot more people living in this area today and a lot less native animals and plants.
