Animal Rights Page @ The Courtyard

This page is devoted to Animal Rights causes, links, discussion, and all other things to promote the awareness of stopping animal abuse. I am an avid lover of animals. I think that they should always be treated withe same respect as humans. They were here first.

What prompted setting this page up was a horrible set of footage on a primetime t.v. show. It was of a woman being run through by a bull in Spain. The footage showed, however, the torture of these bulls during the festival they hold each June. They set them on fire, tie them up and beat them, throw explosives at them, run them through with swords and knives and let them run around bleeding and screaming. I nearly threw up watching it. I couldn't stand to watch it, and I couldn't turn away.

I immedietly began contacting animal rights organizations to see who was in charge of a campaign to stop this. How could I help, what could be done. I contacted people from England to Brazil, to international organizations to local college radio stations. Anyone who may know, or have a voice. I was contaced by the editor of "Animal People," Merrit Clifton, who passed along my information and letter to Steve Hindi of SHARK. This organization is currently waging a campaign against Pepsi for advertising at bullfighting events in Mexico. He is well aware of the torture that these animals go through and is doing anything he can to stop it. But, he needs help.

I was also given the contact information for the primary organization dealing with the bulls in Spain. It is run by the lady I saw in the video, as well as her husband. The name of the organization is FAACE (Fighting Against Animal Cruelty in Europe. Their site is REALLY worth a checking out.

This page is going to begin here and now with a small listing of organizations, links, resources, names, addresses, anything I can get ahold of that may help. PLEASE, go to these sites, make yourself aware of what is going on. You can make a difference! You DO have a voice, and the more voices the better! Thank you for your help!

Link & Resources for Animal Rights

FAACE (Fighting Against Animal Cruelty in Europe) The primary organization addressing the cruelty to bulls in Spain. Please note, they are not anti-Spain, they are anti-cruelty! This organization is run by the woman I saw run through by the bull on television, as well as her husband.

Animal People A publication for animal rights.

IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) In 1993 this organization, along with several other groups got 1.5 million signatures on a petition to stop the cruelty to the bulls.

Animal Cruelty.Com An informational website dedicated to the prevention of animal cruelty.

Adopt a Humpback Whale! This service, through the International Wildlife Coalition is an inexpensive way of helping to save this precious species. Your money helps them to resuce endangered whales and dolphins, investigate their deaths when they occur, and much more. Please have a look. It's also a fun way of connecting with these animals.

ADDA "Founded in 1976, ADDA was the 1st animal welfare organization established in Spain. It is a Non-Governmental Organization." They are out of Barcelona, and are always working to stop bullfighting, as well as the media involvement in showing it on television.

International Wildlife Coalition"Prevent cruelty to wildlife. Prevent killing of wildlife. Prevent destruction of wildlife habitat."

World Animal Net "World Animal Net is the worlds largest network of animal protection societies with over 1,000 affiliates in 75 countries campaigning to improve the status and welfare of animals."

Humane Society of the United States This site contains up to date information on what is going on around the country regarding everything from farm animals to whale hunting up north. They have recently added a bullfighting section to their website. Interestingly enough they mention a "major beverage manufacturer" in their article. I beleive they mean PepsiCo. Anyway, check it out.

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation Animal rights foundation set up by actress turned activist, Brigitte Bardot.

Quick Note I would like to also mention that SEVERAL Zoo's around the country, and I'm sure the World, offer adoption programs. For a minimal fee, you can choose a particular animal from the Zoo, and receive an Adoption Certificate usually good for one year, along with a picture of your animal. It makes a nice gift for someone, or maybe just something you want to do for yourself. I adopted a White Bengal Tiger from the San Francisco Zoo a few years ago, and I enjoyed it so much. So, if you would like to do this, contact your local Zoo, and ask them if they have an Adoption program, chances are they do, and the process is a fun one that benefits the animals at the same time.

If you have a website you think should be listed on this page, as I will be constantly adding more, please contact me through email with the URL and name of the website.
