Here is the Blenheim. Emma is,
of course, a Blenheim. This photo
shows the soft eyes that are
prized and the Blenheim spot atop the
head. The Blenheim spot is valued
but not required. The Blenheim
is described as "red and white."
A second variety of Cavalier is the Tri-Color, sometimes referred to as "Prince Charles Markings." This variety is white and black and red.
Here's a slightly different appearing Tri-Color.
Here on the left we have a Ruby,
the only solid color variety
of Cavalier. On the right is
another Tri-Color Cavalier.
Here is a full view of a Ruby.
The colors may vary from a very
deep russet to a blonde. It
was a Ruby that won the first victory
for the Cavalier King Charles
Spaniel in its first A.K.C. show
as "Best of Class" in the Toy
Dog Class in the 1997 Westminister
Dog Show.
This is a Black and Tan pup.
The Black and Tan, sometimes referred to
as "King Charles Markings,"
is the fourth variety of Cavalier. They
are essentially the same color
as Rottweilers.
A Black and Tan mom nurses her
pups, one of which appears to be
a Ruby. Black and Tans are typically
bred to Rubies and produce
Black and Tans and Rubies, while
Blenheims are typically bred
to Tri-Colors, producing Blenheims
and Tri-Colors. Breeding in
this way is thought to improve
the vibrancy and hue of the colors.
Blenheims, for example, may
become too light if not bred to
Tri-Colors.
