The term refers to certain critics of Jerome's writings whosoever "doth protest mightily" with regard to the realities that Jerome does express in his writings concerning various aspects of Life, existence, society, humanity, science and any other topic that Jerome does address. Of course, much of Jerome's writings, in addressing and examining the realities of Life and existence, thusly are obliged to examine "both sides of the coin", as it might be said, in scrutinizing not only the positive realities of human Life and existence (AND non-human as well), but also the negative realities of such AND HOW those negative realities, especially, do affect the ways in which mankind goes about the living of everyday life in our modern societies.
Thusly, with respect to such "protestations" as we mention here, inevitably the "protestors" are those of "vested interest(s)" IN that negativity of Satan's Veil of Separation which Jerome may be examining, meaning that the "interests" and realities that Jerome may be examining ARE but one or more of Satan's "tools" and "factors" which are giving those "vested interests" THE ADVANTAGE(S) that they do so have and possess, relative to others, and in perpetuation OF such "divisions" of human society AS those "advantages" are so perpetrating. (This, of course, is the very meaning of a "vested interest", as to the societal advantage produced/created, and the very reason THAT such people might protest, when their "advantage", whether unlawfully and illegally gained or not, is exposed and examined for the reality that it is.)
