Concepts of MIS

One of the biggest changes in computer technology is the Internet. The Internet has changed information systems to be centrally organized. This has lead to the re-centralization of information. When computers were first used there was one room with one big computer. That was the first centralization of the information. After this, personal computers were put on workers desks with specific software. The Internet brings together the re-centralization by being the information superhighway. The Internet brings information to you any time and any where. The internet is easily accessible and easy to follow. The article, “The Centrally Decentralized IS Organization” by Ernest von Simson, explains the ways that information systems are changing businesses worldwide. Information systems have allowed businesses to be more efficient. A business can keep their information updated and the internet has reduced the cost of the inefficient methods of decentralization.

The impact of IS made on management strategies is that it allowed for quicker decision-making, easy flexibility, and faster response. The Harvard Business Review article  “Information Technology and Tomorrow’s Manager” describes how information technology is changing the way organizations are ran. Multinational corporations can communicate world-wide being cost effective by using the Internet. The Internet offers things like free email that is very beneficial to businesses because it saves the cost to communicate. Technology allows small businesses the chance to expand globally with the use of the Internet. Today businesses can setup a website for their products to be ordered and distributed.
