Chapter 4

Before one of the concerts Brian brought it to AJ’s dressing room without him knowing. Several hours passed and AJ was in the room changing. Kay Kay appeared in the mirror, hoping to speak with Brian, but was surprised to see AJ nearly naked with his backside face her. Being the healthy, young woman she was, she looked her fill as he changed from outfit to the next. Finally, she gave a wolf whistle.

AJ turned around just as she disappeared. “Who’s there?”

No one answered him. He continued to get dressed, when he heard, “Hey sexy.”

“Who the hell is it?”

“Why don’t you look in the mirror, baby.”

He turned around and saw her wearing a UCLA sweatshirt and boxers. ‘Damn she looks sexy,’ he thought. “Damn it, Kay Kay. You scared the shit out of me,” he said aloud, as he walked up to the mirror. “You could have said something.”

“And miss out on all the fun. No way.”

“Oh, so you like what you saw?” he said seductively.

“It’s good, but Kevin’s is much better. That man should be sculpted.” Seeing the wounded look on his face, she said, “Can’t you take a joke? Jeez.”

For a moment, their eyes met and they each saw the fire of desire burning bright. Their hands went past the physical barriers of the mirrors and allowed them to caress each other’s cheek, as their lips met to create a supernova of their own. AJ instinctively hooked his arms around her waist to bring her closer to him, and in the process of doing so, he nearly lifted her through the mirror.

It was at that moment that Howie opened the door, and said, “AJ, man, it’s almost time to…,” and drifted off when he saw what he was witnessing.

At the sound of his voice, AJ broke off their steaming kiss, and lost his balance. Without letting her go, he fell back on the floor with her on top.

“Hey, D. What’s the hold up?” Brian asked, and peeked inside the doorway. “Whoa. Is that you, Kay Kay?”

“Yeah,” she said, still in a daze.

“How’d you get here?” he asked as he helped her up, ignoring his own band mate.

“She came through the mirror,” Howie answered as he helped AJ up.

“Brian, AJ, Howie! We gotta go now!” they heard Kevin yell.

“You heard the man, let’s go. I’ll see you later,” Brian said while Howie gave them his trademark wink, and closed the door behind them.

“Umm…I gotta…”

“Yeah.”

“So we’ll talk later?”

“Definitely.” After hesitating for a moment, he gave her one last kiss before he left the room.

AJ had never performed so well in his life, and the guys knew he was on cloud 9, but only Howie truly knew the why.

“How come you never came through the mirror when we were younger?” Brian asked.

“Well, we never did try. Plus we never did what we were doing,” she mumbled as she eminisced about the kiss for the thousandth time.

“Earth to Kay Kay,” Nick said.

“Huh…what…I didn’t do it.”

The guys looked at her strangely, except AJ because he knew what she was thinking and flashed her a reassuring smile.

“What were you doing?” Brian asked.

“We were…ahem…kissing,” AJ said, as she blushed.

“What?” Kevin asked, smiling.

“Kissing,” she mumbled, blushing even harder.

“What?” Nick asked.

“Are you guys deaf? We were kissing,” AJ yelled, and quickly covered his mouth with his hands.

“The term ‘kissing’ isn’t the rite term. It was more like hot and heavy making out,” Howie pointed out, with a twinkle in his eyes.

“AJ and Kay Kay sitting under a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G. First comes love, then comes marriage, and then a baby in the baby carriage,” sang Brian and Nick.

“Oh shut up,” AJ said with a laugh.

“Okay, you guys need to get out,” Kay Kay said.

“Why?” Kevin asked.

“I need to talk to AJ, stupid pee brains.”

“Hey, Nick’s the only pee brain,” Brian said.

“Yeah,” Nick quickly agreed, and then said, “Hey!” when he realized he was the on being insulted.

Kevin and Howie pushed them out after saying good-night.

“So,” she said when the room was empty.

“Yeah.”

“What are we going to do?”

“Umm…I don’t know. But I know that I like you a lot.”

“I guess I do too. I mean we’ve never really talked or anything. But there has to be something between us for that to happen. These things don’t happen to me. Well, they’ve never happened before.”

“It’s never happened to me before either. You would think I’ve had because of this image, but I’ve never.”

“So what do you want to do about this?”

“Maybe we should go on a date first. You know, just to see what we feel is really real, so we know if we were caught up in the moment.”

“Sounds like a great idea. I thought Kevin was the reasonable one."

“That’s what we want him to think.”

“So when?”

“I don’t know yet. Let me surprise you.”

“Oh I love surprises.”

“Do you have to go back?”

“Yeah. I have to work tomorrow. Plus I have to take care of Dolly.”

“Who’s Dolly?”

“I’ll be right back,” she said as she went through the mirror, and came out with a sleeping Dolly in her arms.

“I would have pictured her to be a collie or something cute. But not a pitbull.”

“She’s cute in her own way.”

“But not as cute as her owner in boxers and a UCLA shirt.” She didn’t know what do, but blush. “You’re not very good at receiving compliments are you?”

“You’re the first to say them to me.”

“Didn’t any of your ex-boyfriends compliment you, at all?”

“Well…I’ve never had any boyfriends.”

“Why not? You’re gorgeous, smart…”

“Stop it!” she said smiling. “I grew up in a small town full of superstitious people. They all thought I was a witch. The kids would bully me because of my eyes. Then I met Brian, he made life much better until he forgot about his friend in the mirror. It hurt me so much that I just became a very cold person. By the time I moved out here, no one wanted to be with me.”

“Then what made you change?”

“Brian. He was sleeping on the couch like he did he was a kid. I knew he was going to be part of my life again, and there was no way of kicking him out because he’s so stubborn. Oh my! Look at the time. I have to go, AJ.”

“One more question. If you never had any boyfriends, then where the hell did you learn how to kiss like that?”

“I part of the drama department in college. I had a steamy scene and the director of the play, demanded me to get better at kissing someone. My co-star offered. Don’t look at me like that. It was strictly professsional.”

“Right, anyway, I’ll talk to you tomorrow then,” he said.

“Okay, good-night,” she said as she turned.

“Kay Kay?”

“Yes?”

“I forgot to do something.”

“What,” and turned around.

“This,” he whispered as he kissed her gently. AJ broke off the kiss and said, "Sweet Dreams" as he turned.

“AJ?” He turned and walked back to her. Her hand caressed his face, as if trying to remember what he felt like. She kissed him gently on the lips, and almost simultaneously, they deepened the kiss.

“You weren’t acting were you?”

“What do you think, idiot.” Unfortunately, it was late, and they weren’t ready for anything more than that. They parted after promising to see each other later.
