Chapter 13

"So tonight was fun." Jayme commented in her parents car as her and Nick made there way home after leaving the arcade.

"Yeah it would have been better if you hadn't run into your ex-boyfriend." Nick said taking his eye off the road to catch Jayme's reaction.

She just sighed and looked out the window with no reply. She had done what she planned on, she had made it seem like her and Nick were together and happy. After she said her hello's to Jake and Kayla she turned giving Nick a look that told him she wanted to leave, He understood her all to well and she left with him without so much as a good bye to two. She made it seem like she didn't care about them, just what she had planned on.

So why now did she feel as if her heart was ripping in two, she didn't even feel this bad when she found Jake and Kayla together on her last visit. A tear rolled down her face and she turned her head so Nick couldn't see. But it was too late he saw the pain in her eyes.

He tried keeping his eyes on the road but he couldn't take his eyes off of her, she seemed so hurt and helpless. He suddenly had the urge to touch her, make love to her right then and there. She was so beautiful, so vulnerable, and so young. As if she still had a lot to learn about life and she was just waiting for someone to show her.

He reached out and grabbed her hand, giving it a squeeze to let her know he was there for her. He was hurt and shocked to see no reaction from her. She continued to stare out the window crying softly.

Nick had never wanted to make someone's pain go away so badly, as he did at that one moment. However, there was nothing he could do, nothing but be a friend to her. He only hoped she would somehow overcome the hurt she was feeling, and he silently wondered what Jake had done to her that had hurt so badly.

They pulled into her driveway and Jayme stepped out of the car and made her way into the house, in a daze. Nick followed not daring to speak.

She made her way upstairs and into her bedroom without so much of a glance towards Nick. He stood outside of her closed door for a moment before making his way to the guestroom.

Meanwhile Jayme laid on her bed staring at the ceiling. "I'm an awful person." She said aloud. "I'm awful for doing this to Nick. Maybe I should give up, let Jake and Kayla have each other."

But then a thought crossed her mind, "They hurt me and they deserve to be hurt in the same way."

She only hoped she had the strength to go through with her plan.

Nick laid on his bed thinking about the night he had just had, it was the first time in along time he had been able to laugh without camera's or millions of fans surrounding him. Jayme made him smile in a way he hadn't in years.

He didn't know exactly what Jake had done to her but he was sure it would take a lot of time for her to recover. And he was determined to find out what had happened between the two.

He also wondered who the girl with Jake was, he figured a new girlfriend, that's how it seemed. Maybe he cheated on Jayme, maybe he dumped her for someone else. He wasn't sure but he would find out.

He found himself wondering why he cared so much.

"Cause she is a friend." He said aloud. "And she deserves to be happy, I wanna try and help her forget this loser that broke her heart. He doesn't seem worth it."

Jayme had seemed so happy the first time he had met her, she had a sparkle in her eyes and he wondered where the sparkle had gone. Now they were empty, they had no meaning anymore. And when they did it was only pain he could see of, he wished that he could go back to that night in the grocery store and see that sparkle once more, the fire that seemed to push her.

Maybe it wasn't just Jake that took that sparkle away. Maybe something else had, maybe something Jayme wasn't quite sure of herself. Nick wanted to find out, he needed to find out what had caused her pain, maybe that way he could help her out, before it became worse.

He knew if he could just figure out what was causing her pain he could help her.

That's what friends were for. Right?

He turned to lay on his side resting his elbow on the bed and holding his head in his palm and thought aloud.

"Who and I kidding?" He asked him self. "Friend? Yeah right. I am so in love with her."
