Chapter 14

Jayme stepped out of the shower just in time to hear the phone ringing. "UGH!!! Who could that be this late?" She asked aloud.

She waited a few moments before answering it hoping someone else would, when no one did she picked up the phone and said, "Hello."

"Jayme?"

"Yeah. Who is this?"

"Jake. Listen can we talk."

"I really don't have anything to say to you."

"Please."

"Fine. Talk away."

"Not over the phone."

"Well, where. I really wanna spend the rest of my small vacation resting."

"With Nick?"

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing. I just wanna talk. Please meet me somewhere."

"Where?"

"How about the park about three blocks from your house?"

"Sure."

"Meet you in ten?"

"Yeah. See ya."

"See ya."

Jayme hung up the phone and began dressing herself. She then looked at her appearance in the mirror and decided to apply foundation and mascara to her tired face.

Still looking in mirror Jayme smiled and thought aloud, "It worked. Everything is falling into place."

"I have to tell her. I can't just keep this to myself. Maybe she feels the same." Nick told himself debating whether or not to tell Jayme he was in love with her.

Just then there was a knock at his door. He swung it open knowing it would be Jayme. "Hey."

"Hey. Listen I'm headed down to a park, its about three blocks from here."

"Well, I'll go with you. It's too late for you to be alone."

"No, it's okay I need some time alone. Okay?"

"Yeah. Sure." Nick agreed hesitantly.

"Okay. See ya soon. Bye."

"Yeah. Bye."

After Jayme left, Nick paced around his room thinking of the perfect way to tell Jayme how he felt. Then it hit him, he would meet her at the park and tell her how he felt, and try and make her feel a little better about the situation with Jake.

He smiled brightly at his own genius.

"I just have to think of the most perfect thing to say." He dashed out of his room determined to show Jayme exactly how he felt.

******************************

Jayme sat on a bench located at the park she was meeting Jake, she began to wonder if he was gonna show up. It had been awhile since she had talked to him and she knew he didn't live much farther from the park then she did.

"Hey sorry I'm late." Came Jake's voice from behind her.

Jayme turned to face him and didn't speak. She was afraid if she did the wrong words would slip out. Looking at him made her feel angry but also very hurt. So she stood there facing him without speaking a word.

"You must hate me." He broke the silence. But still she said nothing.

"I'm so sorry. For everything. I never meant to hurt you and I never meant to hook up with Kayla."

Still nothing.

"I loved you. You know that right. I.........still do."

Nothing.

"I'll do anything to make it up to you. I promise I'll love you forever."

Finally! "Really?"

"You know I will. I love you. I really love you."

"Jake. You hurt me so badly."

"I know and I hate myself for that."

"I don't know if I can ever forgive you."

"I wouldn't blame you. But please try."

"What about Kayla?"

"I think she just reminded me of you. I told her I couldn't be with her."

"She was my best friend dammit. My goddamn best friend. And you hooked up with her, while we were still together. Do you have any idea how hard that was for me. I could have hooked up with so many people on the road and not even let you know about it. But I didn't, I was faithful. And you had to go and cheat on me, with my best friend."

"I know........"

"NO! Shut up. I don't wanna hear it. You really fucked up. You made this mess and I'll never forgive you. I even thought about planning revenge on you and Kayla, but I'm not stooping to your level. I don't need you or Kayla."

"But you need Nick Carter right?"

"Maybe I do. Maybe I love him."

"No, you don't. I saw the way you looked at him. It wasn't love. You only look at me like that."

Jayme turned her head so she wasn't facing him any longer. Was he right? Did she still love him? Did she make a mistake with Nick, getting closer to him? What was happening? This wasn't how she planned it at all. She faced him again this time with tears in her eyes.

"Jayme, I know you love me. And I love you."

"Oh Jake."

Jake stepped closer to Jayme and reached for her, frowning when she took a step backwards. "I hate you." She whispered.

"I know and I'm sorry."

"Do you really love me?"

"You know I do."

"Then why."

"I don't know."

"I need Nick."

"No you don't. I know you don't love him. Not like you love me."

"I do love him."

"Yeah maybe as a friend you do."

"He is my best friend."

"I understand that, but please tell me you'll give me a second chance."

Jayme turned around trying to erase the look in his eyes. She sighed. Why was this happening? She had tried so hard to get him back for what he did and now he was saying these things to her and the look in his eyes......god those eyes.

She turned to face him, crying. "Do you mean everything you just said?"

"Every word."

"God.........."

Jake reached out and cupped her face kissing her softly and then pulling her in for a hug.

They continued hugging while Jayme silently cried. They then parted and Jake took Jayme into a passionate kiss, Jayme didn't pull away, infact she only deepened the kiss.

Not to far away a heartbroken Nick watched as the women he was in love with kissed another man.

"I guess I was too late." He said to himself as he walked in the opposite direction. "Just a little too late."
