Nick got out of the car, and crossed over to the other side, to open Leigh's door.
"Thank you." Leigh commented.
They walked in and got sat at a little table in the back of the diner.
They ordered lunch, Nick kept looking at her. Leigh felt a little uncomfortable staring into his eyes, so she gazed away.
"Leigh, can I you something?" Nick said out of nowhere.
"Um, yeah I guess." Leigh said shrugging her shoulders, not knowing where he was going with it.
"I know how you have never had a boyfriend. And you probably aren't very interested in one. And your very innocent and all. But I want you to know I want to be friends with you, and maybe more." Nick said with a smile.
Leigh was shocked by his forwardness.
"What? So you think I don't like guys just because I have never had a boyfriend? Maybe I just didn't like you! I started to, but now that I know what your about I don't think I do anymore. Your just another jerk." Leigh said angrily.
"Leigh, I was only trying to be nice. You don't have to have such an attitude!" Nick said getting angry too.
"Well, as you can see, this is a waste of both of our times, so why don't you just take me home?" Leigh said as she stormed out of the diner.
Nick threw down some money and wrote 'Sorry had to leave suddenly' down next to it, on a napkin.
He got outside, and unlocked Leigh's door, then went over to the other side. The drove home in silence until they reached Leigh's house.
Leigh looked over to him, "Don't bother apologizing, your not my type anyway." she said coolly.
"What?" Nick said astonished, "Why should I apologize for your mood swings? And how would you know what your type is, when no guy has ever liked you before? But now I see why." Nick said coldly.
Nick saw the hurt in Leigh's eyes as she turned away fumbling with the door handle.
"Let me out of this car!" she yelled, trying to keep her voice steady.
Nick opened the door, but grabbed her arm.
"Leigh, wait I didn't --" he said, but she cut him off.
"Thanks for making this such a wonderful time." she said as she slammed the door shut in his face.
She walked briskly towards her house, and managed to keep the tears in. The minute she got into the house, she started crying.
She ran up to her room, wanting to forget about Nick and the date.
Nick got out of the car, feeling horrible about what he said.
He went inside, and went up the stairs, he opened one door, but that was the bathroom. Then he opened another to see Leigh sitting on her bed, crying her eyes out into a pillow.
Nick walked in, and when Leigh saw him, she got off the bed.
"Nick, get out of my room!" she shouted at him.
"No, I -" he said, but she interrupted.
She sat back down on her bed. "Listen, I don't want you seeing me like this, so please leave Nick. Please." she said quietly, trying to stop the tears and any more embarrassment.
Nick ignored her, and walked over and sat down next to her.
"Nick, please." she said, the tears welling up.
"No, Leigh, I need to say this to you."
Leigh sighed and wiped her eyes.
"In the diner, I was trying to make you feel more comfortable. But in the car, I don't know why I acted like that. I mean, I understand if you hate me. But I want you to know I am ashamed of myself, and I am so, so sorry." Nick said.
Leigh didn't say anything.
"And your right, I am a jerk."
Leigh laughed a little and looked up from her pillow, with a tear stained face.
"I was being rude too, and I'm sorry." she said through sniffles.
Nick took her hand, "I'm sorry we started off so bad. Want to start over?" Nick offered.
"Yeah. I'd like that." she said.
"I was just wondering, why did you get so defensive in the diner?" Nick asked.
Leigh shifted nervously, "Well its just, you were right about the whole no boyfriend and being innocent thing. And I don't know. It's just look at you! You could get any girl in the world. And me, well I am not a knockout and I doubt I am like any of the other girls you have dated -" she was about to go on, but Nick stopped her.
"I think you are a smart, kind and beautiful person. I wish I could get any girl in the world, if I could I'd ask for you." Nick said romantically.
Leigh let out a little 'Aww..' and they both laughed.
Nick looked deep into her eyes, and started to lean in.
She back away a little, "Nick, I've never even kissed anyone." she said embarrassed.
"Can I be the first?" Nick said respecting her innocence.
She just smiled, and he knew that was a yes.
He leaned in and softly brushed his lips against hers. He pulled away and she was beaming.
"Now that was like the movies!" she said laughing.
Nick rolled his eyes, and started to laugh too.
They talked awhile longer then he had to leave.
That evening Leigh sat in her bed, and couldn't wait to talk to Nick again.
