Milton Elijah Thornton and Bessie Mae Hood-married and lived on Park Avenue. His parents were an indian lady, Mary Angeline Partridge and George Thornton from Georgia but they migrated to the Kowaliga area of Elmore County. Bessie's parents were Ella Olivia Baxley and L. Wesley Hood of Holtville, Elmore County....Bessie's daughter was Mary Ella Thornton who married James Edgar Brooks, and his parents were Susie Mae Cooper and James E. Brooks Sr......Susie's mother was Sarah Elizabeth Carter, daughter of Thomas Randolph Carter and Mary Josephine Hereford......the parents of James E. Brooks were Annie Clark Ballard and John Brooks from Tennessee......Their ancestors were in TN in the very early 1800s..........Most of these families had grandfathers in the Civil War, and then WWI. Milton Elijah Thornton died of cancer and so did most of his children, as they grew up near a contaminated water area in North Montgomery, AL on Park Avenue. So did his grandson Charles who married a Cochran. Charles died young of colon cancer at age 43 while his cousin Peggy died at age 30. The other Brooks passed mostly from hard work and old age. Aunt Irma Cochran lived to be 102 and her sister Bernice passed at age 96 ! Note: Thomas Carter first wife was Lacy Bozeman and second wife Mary Hereford. Mary was a granny to Charles Brooks and Lacy a cousin to Kathy. Oh goodness the trails we have traveled! Please come back and visit again!!!..............Kathy's parents were Anne Alice Carter & Frankie Lavern Cochran. Honest, loving, hardworking, faithful people who gave Kathy a wonderful childhood and education to start her adult life happy and successful; however, in that picture just look at her husband's unaffectionate hands just hanging, awaiting his moment to escape and become the boss. The family dancing ended with this picture. But the spiritual connection of the Cochrans love will never end. Charlie broke her heart but not her spirit.
