Undoubtedly the most action packed installment in the entire franchise, this sucker starts off with a bang and never lets up.
Tommy (played by Thom Matthews in this outing) is still fighting with his demons. Sick and tired of the horrible thoughts of Jason ruining his life, he wants to make sure once and for all that the masked killer is really dead. He wanders into a cemetary and unearths his grave to see the corpse with his own eyes. As he prys open the coffin, the horrible memories of his past invade his mind and he goes ballistic. He drives a metal spike through Jason's maggot-infested corpse only to watch a bolt of lighting strike the metal and shock the killer back to life.
Tommy manages to escape and high-tail it to the Sheriff's office, but much to his dismay, no one will believe him that Jason is alive and ready to kill again. No one, that is, except for the Sheriff's promiscous daughter Megan (Jennifer Cooke). Together, Tommy and Megan make a pact to stop Jason before he unleashes his vengence on the young children who have nestled into their beds at the newly re-opened and re-named Camp Forest Green (formerly Crystal Lake).
Though Tommy manages to eventually lewer Jason into the lake and anchor him underneath the water, it proves to be too little too late, as Jason slaughters his way through a then-series record 18 kills.
The film is laced with constant mayhem and gore and dazzling splatter effects. Director Tom McLaughlin had to make numerous cuts to avoid the X-rating that the MPAA slapped on his initial version. Though the film was not much of a box office success (it grossed a mere $18 million), it has etched itself into the conscious of Friday fans the world over as one of the exciting pictures in the series.
