More About Me Than You Ever Wanted to Know!

Capsule

My name is Lynda Karr. Originally from New Jersey, USA, since my marriage to a sailor, in 1967, I have lived in various states from the East Coast to the West Coast (and back again). Currently, we alternate between Texas and Ohio (we're known as snowbirds in some areas, winter Texans in others). Two children, seven grandchildren, and 25+ career-years later, I am (1) still happily married to the same man, (2) probably not the world's best mom or grandma, and (3) semi-retired. That is, I don't want to work full-time for someone else, but I don't mind working freelance, even at a lower wage.

Beliefs

I believe in relationships above all else. I believe in a gentle mix of honesty, compassion, and respect in all interpersonal dealings. I believe in standing firm for what my conscience tells me is right, but I do not believe in forcing my code of honor or religion on others.

Philosophy

When I was young, I figured if you believe in something then that "makes it so." Then I began studying and realized that something that is true in my frame of reference is not necessarily true for everyone. For instance, my dad was loving and protective, yours was scornful and abusive. I believe dads are great, you believe dads are awful. Good old "relative truth." I can tell you that my dad was good, and you can tell me that your dad was bad, and MAYBE we'll both come to realize that all dads are different, and some are good while others are bad. Communication is the key to relationships and belief systems.

I believe there is probably such a thing as absolute truth, concerning whether or not there is a God. Believing in Him doesn't mean He exists and not believing in Him doesn't mean He doesn't exist. If you believe in Him and He does not exist, (depending on how radical your beliefs are) you're probably not out much. If you don't believe in Him and He does exist, you might be out a lot! On the other hand, if you want Him to exist but He doesn't, believing He does won't make Him exist. And, if you don't want Him to exist, but He does, believing He doesn't exist won't make Him go away.

Then there's the question, assuming God does exist, of which son of Abraham, Isaac or Ishmael, was the child of the promise in the Bible. I don't believe that the number of people who believe one way or the other determines truth. Forcing others to adhere to your belief doesn't make your opinion right. Face it, in the absence of a clear statement from God to everyone on earth as to which belief is correct, your belief is nothing more than an opinion. The forefathers of each religion have set forth their arguments concerning "truth," and either you are convinced by them or you aren't. (Of course there's the possibility that you've never been allowed or taken the time to study both sides to make your own choice.) However, only God knows for sure which is right.

The Meaning of Life

I believe in studying religion to find a clue to some absolute truths, or at least to find some purpose to life. I've watched too many people work hard to achieve their goals, only to have them torn down by other individuals or circumstances beyond their control. I can't be satisfied that life as we know it is all there is. I can't agree that only a few lives have any real permanent impact (the inventor of the wheel, the inventor of the phone, the discoverer of electricity, etc.,) and the rest of us are just "taking up space." What is the purpose of living for those whose good works are torn down by the following generations? Or, since the search for happiness is such an iffy proposition, what would be the purpose of living for those who never are truly happy?

Psychology

I believe we're all slaves to something, but, as intelligent life forms, we have the option to study what's out there, study our own lives, study history, and then choose our "masters." Luckily, that same process of education enables us to exchange the shackles of a current master for those of another whenever we see fit. Unfortunately, slavery to the force of habit makes this exchange easier for some people than for others.

The F Word

I believe in freedom with responsibility and with respect for the rights of others. I believe you have the right to walk down the street in front of my house and state your beliefs; however, I do not believe you have the right to use a bullhorn to force me, in the privacy of my own home, to hear what you say. I believe you have the right to blast out your eardrums with loud speakers in your car, but I do not believe you have the right to disrupt my day as you drive past with amplifiers pounding. I believe you have the right to pile up junk around your home and live like a slob; however, you should have enough respect for your neighbors to put a privacy fence around your junk so we don't have to look at it. I believe you have the right to abuse alcohol and cigarettes, and other legal substances, even though you know they are harmful to your health; however, you do not have the right to ask me to pay your medical bills. I could go on for quite a while, but, simply stated, I believe you have the right to live your life as you please, as long as you don't disrupt the lives of those around you in ANY way.

Hobbies and Interests

I enjoy tennis, bowling, and golf. I read mystery and suspense novels, watch television, and own and rent movies. I'm fascinated by health and fitness, exploring spirituality and prophecy, and the prospect of continuous education. And I'm overcoming an addiction to the Internet (Cheshire-cat grin).

Really, Really Personal Stuff

My favorite welcome mat reads: "Martha Stewart doesn't live here," and my favorite plaque reads: "A home should be clean enough to be healthy, and dirty enough to be happy."

That pretty much covers it, and that's about as personal as it gets.

Confidentiality
All communications of any type with A Last Look are private and confidential, and may not be stored by any means or shared in any manner with anyone else without the written permission of Lynda Karr. Communications from you are accorded the same rights. Your e-mail address is never shared with anyone else without your express permission except as demanded by the law. If you receive a communication from me by mistake, you may not use anything in it for your personal gain or for the personal gain or detriment of others, and you should notify me at once, delete the communication, and ignore its contents.

Message Instructions: I'm eager to hear from you, but thanks to UCE/SPAM and address-harvesting robots, I had to devise a method of masking my e-mail addresses and/or weeding out serious inquiries from junkmail. My method is to (1) provide a new e-mail address whenever spam overtakes me and (2) provide subject lines for you to use that robots can't use.

(1) If you don't need me now but think you might in the future, bookmark this page and come back here to click on the current e-mail address when you need me. Once you become a client/networker, you'll be given my permanent address.

(2) To enable my e-mail program to filter your message properly, please type or copy-and-paste one of the following subject lines into the subject line of your message. I look at messages with these subject lines first and the rest of my messages when I get around to it. Once I become familiar with your address, you won't need to worry about this step.

I may need a proofreader and/or copyeditor.
I am a proofreader and/or copyeditor.
I'd like to be a proofreader and/or copyeditor.
I have a comment about A Last Look and/or your Web site.

Then click on the "Send e-mail" link.

Once you've clicked on the link, your e-mail program will pop up. Right-click in the Subject line, and click paste to enter the subject line you chose from those above (or just type it in). Then, compose your message including how I should address you in my response, at least your general location (city, time zone), a phone number at which you can be reached in case e-mail ceases to work, and a short outline of what you are hoping to accomplish. If you are requesting a free estimate, please attach your project file(s) or a file containing a few pages from the middle of your project.

Send e-mail

To send a personal message, write a subject line that includes the name I would know you by, like "Do you remember Lynda Sandford, from Maple Shade, NJ?", and click on the following link: Hi, Lynda

Having trouble? If mailer daemon returns your message or if the links above don't appear to work for you, send your message directly to me at dzntwrk (means the link or your e-mail "doesn't work") @alastlook.com, but please don't forget the subject-line instructions above.

If you are a potential client and do not receive a reply from me within one business day, it may be because your e-mail host treats mail from Yahoo.com as spam. Check with your provider to see if placing my yahoo address in your filters or address book will negate that block. If so, send me a message telling me that, and I'll send you the yahoo address to put in your filters or address book (via my ISP e-mail, currently handtechisp.com). If putting my yahoo address in your program won't work, please resend your request, and tell me your e-mail host won't accept yahoo mail. Hopefully your e-mail host will accept mail from my ISP. I move around a bit and my ISP can change, so I prefer to use stable, continuous, able-to-be-reached-from-any-computer Yahoo.

If you are a potential networker or newbie/wannabe, you won't hear from me until network activity increases and I am once again accepting applicants or I have new pages on the site that may be of interest to you. I will keep your information on file for that purpose and that purpose alone.

Thanks so much! I look forward to hearing from you, even if it is to complain about my site (grin)! If you know what you want and I know who you are, you can use the following buttons to fund your retainer.
