Chapter 10

"Yeah, I just moved here last week. I'm staying with the Adams'," Litt replied.

It was lunch, she had been sitting by herself until Brian had seen her. They had been asking questions about each other, but Litt was getting antsy. She didn't want him to know about her past.

Brian frowned. "Why? Where are your folks?"

She shifted uncomfortably in her seat and looked away. He had already asked about her wounds, and she had simply told him she had gotten into a fight back in Phoenix. "They're in Arizona," she spoke quietly.

Brian could see her unrest, and decided to change the subject. "Do you play any sports?"

Litt smiled. "Yeah, I like playing volleyball and basketball."

His eyes lit up. "You wanna--" but he cut himself off, remembering her knee.

She laughed. "I wish. I'm still supposed to be using crutches, man."

Raising an eyebrow, he asked, "And why aren't you?"

"Cause they're really annoying," came the simple reply.

Brian found out that she gave simple replies to anything she didn't want to talk about. Her mysteriousness made him want to know everything about her. Unfortunately, the bell rang before he could ask her another question. "Well, I'll see you around, Litt." Then he frowned. "Is 'Litt' a nickname or something?"

She laughed as she struggled to stand up. He grabbed her hand and pulled her to a standing position. "Thanks. And no, it's my real name, and don't ask why, cause I don't know. I don't mind it though, it's unique."

"Huh," he nodded. "That it is."

Litt got through the rest of the day alright. She met some really nice girls who let her in their group, and she found out that she had two classes with Brian; second period Algebra 3/4, and sixth period English 11. When she told her new friends about how nice Brian was being to her, their eyes got big. Two of the girls, Krystal and Rachel, had big crushes on him. What she really liked about these new friends of hers was that they didn't ask any questions. They simply accepted her.

"Alright, for tomorrow I want you to read section 7.3, and do the chapter review,” Mr Geonopolis (aka Mr G), the physics teacher, told the class.

The last bell rang, and Litt quickly wrote the information down on her hand. On her first day, she had gotten homework in every class. And this time she'd have to do it.

Walking out of the room she saw Brian leaning against the wall across the hall, waiting for her. "Come on, Hop Along, let's go."

She grinned and shook her head. "What bus do you take?"

"Same one as you," he replied as they began walking down the hall.

"Really? I didn't notice you before."

"I don't see why. EVERYONE notices me," he joked.

Litt laughed. "Yeah, but that's not a good thing."

Her stop came before his, so she said goodbye to Brian and followed Tess off. Tess had noticed her sitting with Brian, and gave her a questioning look.

Litt looked at her cluelessly. "What?"

"Doing ok in the guy department, aren't we?" she asked as they walked down the street.

"No, I'm just making friends easier than I thought I would," she replied simply.

Tess just smiled and walked on in silence.
