Well, here we are on Thursday. I still haven't written my essay on the Odyssey but it's not due until next Wednesday so I'll be fine, I've really lost any ability to study here!
I began my new job on Tuesday night, I'm a walker with Safewalk, which is a service offered by the student union here (called the Alma Mater Society, odd hey), so that people on campus can call safewalk if it's after dark and have a guy and a girl come and walk with them to their destination. I think this is a great idea, especially as this is a huge campus (emphasis on HUGE) and it's very close to town, so there's occasionally some not so nice people prowling around. Anyway, my shift, I was walking around with a guy who's on the UBC Thunderbirds football team (american football) and he's big and tough and so I felt perfectly safe! Plus, I also got some instruction on the how's and why's of american football.
Last week I went out downtown on Thursday to this area that's not quite so nice in Vancouver (East Hastings if anyone knows where that is) with a friend to see his friend's band play - anyway, it turns out that this band is heavy metal to the extreme of having fake blood all over the singer and black clothing, makeup, piercings everywhere - the crowd as well. I felt a tad out of place in my settling in for an evening of TV clothes which I'd just been happening to be wearing when Justin (that's my friend) came and found me. Anyway, the whole evil and dark aspect of the band fell through a bit when Justin tells me he used to have pillow fights with the guys on stage when they were kids...I mean, how can you be scared/impressed by a band when you know that deep down they're all gooey?
I have started playing (of all things) frisbee while I've been here - and you wouldn't believe it buy that can be a full contact sport - I have several nasty bruises and a sore ankle so far!
Okay, going away this weekend (hopefully!), talk to everyone later!
Here's some photos (no, I haven't just been going mad taking photos lately, I've just only discovered a scanner recently!)
Okay, had some issues and pictures will be there next time!
