Ralph & Laura, Desert Dreams

Oasis Of Our Mind

Out to the desert they ventured once more
Into the gates of hell's open door
An orb of fire hung menacing in the blue clear sky
Bidding all parched below to surely die
Though it's not looking good for us my dear
He tried to impart to her some cheer
In his mind he knew his words were hollow
Come along with me, we'll survive it if you follow
On and on o'er dunes of sand
He vowed to her he'd make his stand
'Til the last gasp of breath the desert take
Daring to step here in August was their mistake
The minutes dragged and seemed like years
only confirming for him his fears
That indeed this could be the end
He did not want her to see him bend
Her mind now began to wander
As her demise she dared to ponder
Weary and well past parched
they continued on their slow, slow march
The sun seemed paused and still above
As his heart broke with pain for his love
To see her misery was more than he could bear
His God he begged to send her some air
Though his prayers seemed to go unheard
He'd promised her, he'd given his word
That survive they surely would
He wasn't sure they really could
As he saw her growing weaker
His bravado was now much meeker
Now lips were cracked and bleeding
Through his mind lucid moments fleeting
"Water I need water," she whispered softy
He knew to drink it now too costly
His own ration he offered her eager lips
Be careful my love, take small sips
He gently stroked her hot dry brow
Her skin was fevered and burning now
He knew she was growing weaker
As for salvation he did seek her
From the relentless torture from above
He damned the sun for daring hurt his love
Fists he raised up to the sky
As he rasped his curses to the one on high
I'll not let you harm her dear sweet head
If you succeed you'll do it when I'm dead!
He urged her slowly on
Toward the horizon far beyond
The whiteness of heat blinded her eyes
As they climbed up the next small rise
Stumbling in sand and hopelessly lost
Perhaps with their lives they'd pay the cost
Slowly swooping, and soaring in the skies
He gazed at the vultures waiting their demise
Come beloved, come here to me,
Let us sit here 'neath this shady tree
Look my dear at the bubbling brook
You'll see it too if you'll only look
Drink your fill of earth's wet sweetness
Close your eyes and be not restless
Holding her close he kissed her lips
and stroked her face with his finger tips
Come lay beside me so we can sleep
As mother earth will safely keep
Feel the breeze blow on your brow
Sleep my darling, for there's no harm now

Upon Soft Dreams

Upon soft dreams we gently tread
The hope for us is here
Gone forever are doubts and dread
For our love we keep so dear
Peace and contentment have come our way
We've got our ties that bind
Loving thoughts carry us through the day
Upon soft dreams of our mind
You turn to me and I to you
Faith and trust abound
Our love's eternal and oh so true
And as always it keeps us sound
My beloved you are the one
Who centers me to the core
When our time on earth is done
Together we will be evermore
Upon soft dreams we wend our way
With strength and hope and love
As we live our future from day to day
Guided by the stars above

Parched Ground

Summer sizzles and etches the already barren land.
Cracks appear in dry riverbeds.
Blowing sand carves nooks of shadow in the
bright white desert floor.
Shimmering visions appear in the distance as
our eyes perceive things imagined.
Daunting and daring those unfamiliar with the
reality to enter this hostile domain
Clouds appear upon the horizon as the wind
increases her tempo.
Rumbles of thunder vibrate falling pebbles as
the summer monsoon promises a lying relief,
only heat continues to rain down upon this
solar landscape.
Upon closer inspection we marvel at the tiny
shoots of green which defy all odds to push
through the hardened surface despite the harsh
reality.
Lessons of life can be gleaned from it's
tender example.

Meaning

You look into me with love and truth in your eyes
Seeing deep down to the very the core of me
where my being is centered.
Never before has my soul been laid so bare
exposing all that I am to all that you are
and all that we make of each other.
Two have become one in mind, body and spirit.
Ever more into this life and beyond to the next.
For without you and I unto each other
life's meaning ceases to exist.
