Segment 1, Photo 8 [^^Pond Gallery Main Page] [^^HOME] [Contact] Segments: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] Welcome to the Pond Gallery; featuring the artwork of local Dallas Artist, Frank Leeding...One of my passions is the way in which the problems of culture (especially government) are recognised (or not) by the artists of the time. In the book and excellent film (with Sir Ben Kinsley) "Testamony" -[imdb.com]- (1988), Dimitrii Shostakovich (affectionally refered to as "misha" or by me as "Shosty") was forced to denounce his own 9th symphony (a mere 25 minutes long - hardly on par with any Beetovanic expectations) and in his 10th symphony, there occur many music jokes - despite the massive nature of the work. But, then things got better (eventually Stalin died); or as we say in Russian "ffeh-sheh-voh xh-ah-roh-shih-vuh" "Tommorow, even better". Regardless, through a seriess of "unfortunate events", my plans to earn a degree in Russian Literature and Polical EcConomy never came to fruition; well not yet - anyway.
Although few details are known as to actually how Misha and Pierre escaped from Soviet Russia... and while this is the most commonly accepted theory, there are those that maintain that the surrealist artist/actor Dimitrii Gianovitch was in some manner connected with the forged documents. In support of this argument, it is often pointed out, that while at the Kublinikov Academy, Dimitrii studied welding and sculpture under the inspiring young artist Ivan Yasonovitch. The course work included non an inconsiderable ammount of foundery and forging skills. [MAC Daily News and Independent Press; archive (no date); used with permission of the Editor.]
