My favorite resource for moms is MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers. It's been a lifesaver for me since my third child was born! MOPS is a mothers' support group where you can go and your kids play with other kids while YOU have time for YOURSELF at a meeting that includes guest speakers, refreshments, crafts, and lots of friends all in YOUR boat! I love staying home with my kids. Not only do I stay home with them, they stay home with me! We are a home school family, and we love it! It's not always easy, not always fun, but it is certainly rewarding. I feel like God designed me for this job. Maybe you feel the same way.
But do you feel like sometimes there should be something in your life just for YOU? Do you get tired of doing for others? I burn out easily in this department. I feel drained physically and emotionally. I give all of myself to my family and sometimes I just have to give something back to myself.
Before I became a full-time mom, I made sure I had a college degree. I had wanted to be an architect since I was 15 years old. I have a degree in architecture, and someday I will probably go back into it full time. I tried doing it at home when my middle girl was a baby, but it was hard to focus on a job and the computer and learning new skills and standards with children interrupting and needing my attention. And I felt guilty when I wasn't spending time with them!
Ever since I got hooked up to the internet, I've been looking for opportunities to use it as a home business. With all this WEB out there, there certainly should be some honest internet jobs out there, using technology to augment my skills and create my home office. I have certainly found some dead-ends, some dishonest schemes, some scams out there. But I think by using my head and some great resources I have come across, I CAN use the internet to be involved in architecture until this season of my life changes.

Why do I spend time surfing for opportunity? I really believe that it makes me a better mom. I feel empowered, rejuvenated, excited. I feel my brain working again, not rehearsing the times tables or skip-counting, but brainstorming ideas that I would LOVE to do online. It gives me a sense of value, of self-worth. I can remember that there is more to life than washing dishes and clothes. And I thank God for that!
But remember, it's not just the "work" that makes me a better mom, it's doing what I love that makes me a better mom. I will be putting opportunities within my web site from time to time.
