Meander or Greek Key
(foiling evil spirits)
< Previous----Next>
The meander, labyrinth, and Greek Key are versions of the universal theme
of infinity, representing infinite time, space, or power. In Ukrainian folk
lore, the meander functions as a labyrinth-like talisman. Evil spirits travel
along its path, becoming so confused and disoriented that they are unable
to find the end of the path, and to pester the soul of the person wearing
the charm. In Greek mythology, a labyrinth was constructed by King Minos to
confine the dangerous man-bull creature, the Minotaur. Both in ancient and
modern times, people have walked the labyrinth as a form of meditation. Made
from glazed red earthenware clay, the back of this limited edition piece displays
the artist's signature stamp and the LQP chop mark. Left to right 1 5/8"
