Gorean taverns are by their very nature kill/capture zones.
It is impossible to conceive of them as being otherwise
The rules for fighting within the Ost Inn are simple![]()
You first announce your intentions, which is of course the only honorable thing to do. (This includes Assassins, who will have the mark of the dagger displayed clearly) You do this by either drawing a weapon, verbally challenging, or both. Please be specific as to your purpose, i.e. a death spar or an honor spar. In any event, you must have an avatar, and be a known name on Gor. A homestone would also be nice so we know who to inform in the event you lose, but not absolutely necessary. Your opponent may then elect to do one of the following. He may strike first without preamble He may decide discretion is the better part of valor and depart the tavern in all haste He may plead for postponement, a chance to talk over the problem, or lastly, he may plead for his life In any case, whatever he does, his next post counts as his first post. ~Shrug~ Assuming a fight, it is to be five posts each, alternating, maximum six actions, and the winner gets any of the loser's property that is currently present in the tavern, including weapons, gold, and slaves. In the case of two against one, the one would get ten posts and be able to use them as best he sees fit, and of course must deal realistically with both opponents ~Grin~ Honor spar, first blood, death, or just because you are feeling ornery fights, it doesn't matter. The Tavern Rules are the same for All. Just make sure the intention is declared by the challenger. If there is disagreement as to the winner and loser, the tavern's management will study the transcript and make a determination. You may take comfort in the knowledge that the tavern management is well versed in sparring and judging such and will be most careful and in typical tavern fashion, shows no favortism. Important Note: The winner pays for all tavern damages Remember:
In order to have a death counted, your name and preferably homestone must be known. This is to prevent the anonymous assassin, or cowardly, would be rarius, from taking unfair advantage by using a name that is not his own, or one he doesn't mind losing. Sparring is a matter of honor, even in a low life tavern. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
As for capture rules![]() ~CHUCKLES~ There aren't too many, especially in the matter of the tavern slaves, dancers and employees. They of course are the property of the tavern and its owners and are there to work. As such they do not require escorts to protect them although any tavern patron in his right mind wouldn't think of capturing a tavern slave.
~ IMPORTANT NOTE ~
A visiting Free Woman would be wise to have guards present, and a girl her owner, for only their steel protects Y/you. This is as it should be in any camp or city, and especially in a tavern . . . . This being said, here is the procedure. For those not of the Inn, to capture a slave or a Free Woman in the Inn requires three posts, not a single "Grabs you and runs". You must give them a chance to react, and if a Rarius is present, a chance to defend. Rarius are stronger than females. Capture can be delayed, but cannot be avoided unless a Rarius steps in and fights for Y/you, and wins. Make it realistic. Y/you cannot “leave” or x out during a capture. (in the event of computer problems, at the earliest possible time, let someone KNOW what happened, and you are considered captured anyway) No collared slaves that are captured are to be branded or re-collared. Captives may be left at the Inn or taken back to your home camp, and held for ransom or rescue. Captured slaves must be treated as their silk designation dictates. Furring a white silk or restricted red is OUT. Ask the girl, she will tell you her status. The slave is not captured for good, only until ransom is paid, or she is rescued, unless you wish to take on her owner. The exception to this is of course an un-collared slave. A word to the wise here. Capturing a collared slave who has a homestone is quite likely to get you in a world of hurt so be wise in what you do and have a good reason for doing it. To capture a Free Women you must first deal with her guard. Defeating him in honorable combat will mean the Free Woman is now yours to do with as you wish. She may be collared or held in one of our cages for ransom if you so desire. You will note the Inn has first capture and collar rights . . .~Grin~
