DEEP PURPLE COLLECTION VOL. 2

DEEP PURPLE EXTRA: JEALOUSY

The book starts with a very unflattering shot of Minami and his equally super ugly friends. x_x Moving on…

Rukawa is sleeping yet again in Sendoh's dormitory. Very cute shot of Rukawa sleeping on Sendoh's bed, with Rukawa's arm jerkily moving in his sleep, thus hitting Sendoh on the face. ^^ It seems that it has become Rukawa's routine to take a nap at Sendoh's place after their one-on-one games. Sendoh muses on why Rukawa is so off-guard when it comes to him… perhaps it's because he is a guy (Sendoh is clueless).

Sendoh begins to poke at Rukawa's face (pinches his cheek, pokes at his nose). He begins to think that Rukawa won't wake up no matter what he does, when suddenly, Rukawa's eyes snap open. Rukawa asks him what's wrong… note that he didn't balk at Sendoh at all for disturbing his sleep. ^^

Sendoh just tells him that he looks pretty. Indignant, Rukawa tells him to say such a thing to a girl, though Sendoh doesn't seem to be kidding when he said it. Sendoh tells Rukawa that he is serious. Rukawa makes an off-hand comment, and Sendoh pins Rukawa to the bed. Sendoh asks Rukawa if he really thought he was just kidding about his comment. When Rukawa doesn't answer, the situation becomes awkward and Sendoh finally lets him go, saying that he IS only kidding and that he doesn't have "such a taste". Rukawa thinks to himself that he is tired of Sendoh's jokes. He stands up and tells Sendoh that he's going home. Sendoh asks him if he is mad (he's not a homo)… but Rukawa just tells him that it is none of his business. Sendoh is left at his room, reflecting about the first kiss that they shared.

Rukawa is speeding away on his bike when Minami spots him. Minami calls out to him, calling out a wrong name, I have to add. Rukawa doesn't seem to recognize him, and Minami tells him he is the guy from Osaka.

Sendoh gets a call from Koshino in his dorm. They talk about Rukawa, and how Sendoh seems to be spending quite a lot of time with the boy. Koshino tells Sendoh that he doesn't like Rukawa. He thinks it's amazing that Sendoh can comfortably spend so much time with a guy, but then Sendoh tells him that it's easy to be with Rukawa for he doesn't have to say anything. Thinking to himself, he feels that when he is with Rukawa, he is not afraid of silence (awww…), though being with Rukawa makes him feel breathless.

Back to Minami and Rukawa… Minami asks Rukawa about his eye. Rukawa tells him that everything is okay. Minami tells him that he has worried about it all the time. o_O He also tells him that he has always thought of him *twitch*. Rukawa just tells him that his eyes are okay and that Minami shouldn't worry about anything.

Okay, folks. It gets even worse. Just warning you…

Minami tells him that's not what he meant. Minami feels that he can go to a university there, and then they can play together. Rukawa tells him he doesn't care which university he goes to. Minami tells him that he is not interested in a loser, and Rukawa replies that he can only see the one who plays better than him.

Enter Minami's super ugly friends. One of them threatens Rukawa, but he only gains a punch from Sendoh's little sweetheart. Atta boy! Just then, a police officer appears. Rukawa tells the officer that he's got nothing to do with them. Yadda-yadda.

The following day, Sendoh and Rukawa meet for their usual one-on-one game. Sendoh is happy to see him there… he is worried that Rukawa is still mad at him for what happened between them the previous day. Rukawa tells him that he is not a girl and therefore, he can't be mad at something so mundane. And so they begin to play. Ack, all this sexual tension is driving me nuts! ^^;;

Minami and friends are walking aimlessly like lunatics around town. Minami's ugly friends tell Minami not to worry about anything and just have fun. They spot Sakuragi and gang on their way to play Pachinko. Minami talks to Sakuragi, and tells him that he saw his friend "Nagarekawa" the previous day. Sakuragi is clueless as to what he is talking about, when the ever cool and sensible Yohei (I like him) tells Sakuragi that perhaps Minami is referring to Rukawa. Sakuragi reacts predictably, screaming how anyone can think that Rukawa, the homosexual fox, is a friend of his. Minami is surprised at the nickname. Takamiya butts in, telling everyone that he has heard Rukawa is going out with Sendoh. Sakuragi tells him to shut up, for it is a shameful fact. Minami seems quite unhappy with this piece of news.

Meanwhile, the object of their discussion is happily signing his fans' autographs. A girl requests Rukawa to sign an autograph, but he just ignores her. ^o^

Afterwards, Sendoh asks Rukawa if they can go somewhere before the summer holiday is over, maybe to the seaside. Rukawa asks him if he wants to go somewhere where he can refresh his mind… he thinks that Sendoh always looks so stressed. A look of surprise from Sendoh… and the same from me. Where did that come from? Rukawa asks him when they will be going. Sendoh can't believe it… is Rukawa serious? He was expecting him to say no. Sendoh, quite happy at the turn of events, tells Rukawa that they should go right at that instant before Rukawa changes his mind. ^o^ Rukawa asks him if he has any money with him. Sendoh realizes that he is short in cash, so they agree to meet at the Enoden line of Fujisawa train station after two hours.

Minami and friends are talking about Rukawa. They taunt Minami, asking him if he wants to leave without doing anything… would he want to see Rukawa crying and begging for help? Minami tells all of them to shut up. He begins to reflect about Sendoh. Faintly, he remembers the time when Kishimoto saw a picture of Sendoh in a magazine. Minami begins to think that it's Sendoh who Rukawa was referring to when he told him that he only sees the person "infront of him". Minami spots a telephone booth. He searches for Rukawa in the directory and rips the page out.

Rukawa is just about to leave. His sister/cousin/whatever reminded him about his bicycle lock, but he tells her that he'll be taking the train and that he won't be coming back that night. Meanwhile, Sendoh is talking to Koshino on the phone and informs him that he won't be attending next day's practice for he is going to go on a trip. Koshino tells him that he sounds very happy (and he is right, Sendoh is sporting a goofy grin while talking to him). Koshino tells Sendoh to behave. LOL!!!

While Rukawa is walking to the train station, a van looms up behind him. It is Minami and his super ugly gang. Needless to say, Rukawa is abducted.

Sendoh is already at the train station, waiting for Rukawa.

Rukawa looks beaten up. The guys think how beautiful Rukawa is, how much he looks like a girl. You don't have to be a genius to know what they plan on doing to him. The weird thing is that Minami isn't doing a thing. When one of his friends pulls his zipper down, he looks away. Hmmm… it seems that Minami has certain feelings for Rukawa. *vomit*

Meanwhile, the passengers at the train station are talking about Sendoh, wondering how long he is going to wait. Sendoh begins to wonder what Rukawa is doing at the time.

#5: LIAR

That night, Sendoh finally decides to find Rukawa's house. Just at that instant, a woman steps down from a car, and notices Sendoh. She asks him if he is Kaede's friend. Sendoh says yes, and introduces himself. He tells her that he has called Rukawa's number several times, but no one has answered. Sendoh begins to suspect that the woman he is talking to is Rukawa's sister, but the woman informs him that she is his cousin.

Inside the house, they talk about Rukawa. Rukawa's father works overseas and only comes home occasionally. Sendoh notices the t.v. in the living room and asks the woman if it's new (remember the excuse Rukawa used when he visited Sendoh in DP vol. 1?). Sendoh tells her that he has heard it is broken, or maybe Rukawa was referring to the t.v. he exclusively uses. The woman doesn't know anything about it. ^^;; The woman tells Sendoh that it's the first time she has ever met a friend of Rukawa's. She goes on to say that Rukawa doesn't tell her anything about school and that he has nothing in his mind but basketball. Sendoh tells her that she shouldn't worry about anything, that Rukawa is just quiet and so he is easily misunderstood by a lot of people. Sendoh excuses himself and tells the woman that he should better get home because Rukawa might drop over to his house. He leaves his telephone number to the woman. The woman tells Sendoh that she is relieved that Rukawa has finally met a friend like Sendoh. ^___^ Soon to be lover, I might add.

Sendoh returns to his dorm. It has been six hours since the time they should be meeting for their trip. He realizes that Rukawa can't be there, since he doesn't have a key to Sendoh's dorm. Just then, he hears a noise behind him.

It's Rukawa. Sendoh is stunned. Rukawa looks haggard and all bloody. Sendoh asks him what happened. Rukawa tells him that it's not a serious matter. Sendoh holds Rukawa in his arms and doesn't say anything more.

Rukawa sleeps on his bed while he cleans Rukawa's wounds. The phone rings. It's Rukawa's cousin, and he tells her that Rukawa is there with him and that he is sleeping. Sendoh tells her not to worry. Just then, Rukawa wakes up and sits on the bed. Sendoh tells him that he tried to find Rukawa's address and that he dropped by his house. Rukawa places his hand on his mouth, looking like he's going to throw up. Sendoh tells him to change his clothes. Rukawa apologizes to Sendoh for not being able to keep his appointment. Sendoh, while helping Rukawa to put on a new shirt (cute scene), tells him not to worry about something like that at a time like this. He says that he is going out to buy some ice for Rukawa's injury, but Rukawa stops him by pulling on his shirt. Rukawa says that he doesn't need anything and that he just needs to sleep to recover. Sendoh asks him if he is hungry. Rukawa tells him no, and that he doesn't need anything. Sendoh gently caresses Rukawa's hair, saying he understands.

A few moments later, Rukawa is asleep again. Sendoh is still on the bed beside him, watching over him. The phone rings. Just as he is about to stand up, he realizes that Rukawa still has a grip on his shirt. Now this is a cute scene… instead of pulling Rukawa's fingers from his shirt, he undresses himself. Now doesn't this remind you of a scene in Bronze where Kouji cut a part of his hair that Izumi was gripping in his fingers? T_T

It's Koshino. He informs Sendoh that someone wishes to meet with him at the train station and talk to him about an incident that occurred the day before. Sendoh tells Koshino that he'll be there immediately.

At the train station, Minami is already waiting for Sendoh. Minami asks Sendoh about Rukawa's condition, much to Sendoh's surprise. Blah, blah… Minami tells him how he has always wanted to avenge himself from Rukawa eversince his team lost to an unknown team Shohoku in IH. Sendoh asks him if he injured Rukawa in a crowd. Minami finally tells Sendoh that Rukawa has been raped and couldn't have been hurt at all if he didn't put up a fight. Minami also tells Sendoh how they threatened Rukawa that he won't be able to play basketball again if he fights them. Needless to say, Sendoh is shocked.

Minami goes on to tell Sendoh that he wanted to see him, for he has heard that he and Rukawa are involved in a relationship. Minami says that Rukawa is very pretty and that it is a shame that he is a man. Minami pulls out his knife. Both of them become quiet for a few moments… nice shots of Sendoh here trying to battle with his emotions. Finally, he lets out a beautiful, calm smile, and calls Minami a liar (hence, the title of this chapter). He says that Rukawa's body is still whole. If not, then Rukawa wouldn't have been able to go to his dorm and face him.

Flashback as to what really happened… one of Minami's super ugly friends tries to force Rukawa to give him a blowjob, but feisty Rukawa bites the thing off. The guy screams in panic and pain. Just as another one of them is about to hurt Rukawa, Minami stops him and tells the others to take the injured guy to the hospital. Minami is left alone to deal with Rukawa, but doesn't do anything. Rukawa tells him that he (Minami) wasn't really hoping for something like this to happen. Minami unties Rukawa and lets him go. Rukawa tells him not to concern Sendoh with what happened to him, or else, he will kill Minami.

Back to the present… Sendoh tells Minami that he doesn't have the time to listen to Minami's confession. Sendoh turns and walks away.

But Minami won't give up. At the time, Koshino walks on them and calls out to Sendoh. When Sendoh looks behind his back, Minami is there, attacking him.

#6: PAIN

Sendoh grabs the knife with his bare hands. It is all bloodied. Minami screams at him, asking him why Sendoh didn't stop him. Sendoh looks shocked.

Koshino runs to Sendoh's side and is panicked at the sight of so much blood. Sendoh tells him that he is fine. He turns to Minami and tells him that he and Rukawa are not involved in a relationship and that Rukawa has nothing in his mind but basketball. Minami narrates to Sendoh how Rukawa has bitten off a vital organ of his friend's. A picture of Rukawa holding his mouth flashes in Sendoh's mind. Minami tells Sendoh that Rukawa did it to keep his virginity, even if he knew that fighting them would increase his injuries.

A group of young men, their teammates actually, approach the scene, and Koshino calls out to them, telling them to call the police. Sendoh kicks off the knife and covers Koshino's mouth with his bloody hand. He tells everyone that he'll bring Koshino to the clinic for having a nosebleed in the middle of the day. ^^;; As they walk off, Minami tells himself that he won't bother them again.

In Sendoh's room, Rukawa finally wakes up. He goes to the bathroom to take a drink from the sink, but instead, the water comes off the shower. He stands there and lets it soak him. Beautiful scene. ^^

At Koshino's, Sendoh is getting his hand bandaged. Sendoh gets the usual nagging from Koshino, who says it's foolish of him to grab the knife with his bare hands like that. Sendoh tells him that he is going home now. Koshino says that he hasn't explained everything to him yet, but Sendoh just tells him to wash the blood off his face.

Along the way, Sendoh begins to think of Rukawa… the time when Sendoh asked him to take him to school with his bike, the time when Rukawa brought a videotape to his dorm because his t.v. was broken… the time when Sendoh was sick and Rukawa touched his forehead. Sendoh thinks that there hasn't been a fragment of hesitation in Rukawa's eyes. This is what makes him so innocent in Sendoh's eyes, IMO. But Sendoh feels that he's not the same. He is always burdened by his feelings that he can't and won't do anything that Rukawa doesn't want him to do. This is what makes him cautious in Rukawa's presence.

In his dorm, he is greeted with a vision of Rukawa under the shower. If you can still remember the beautiful scene in the anime of Rukawa standing under the rain, then the scenes here are just as beautiful. I absolutely love Prin's artwork!!!

Rukawa moves his hand to wipe his mouth. Sendoh's eyes widen at this… he must be remembering what Minami just told him. He grabs Rukawa's hand, which startles Rukawa.

Sendoh moves towards him and kisses him. I believe this is SenRu's first passionate kiss in DP. And passionate and beautiful it was. Sendoh seems to have forgotten all about his wounded hand, which is bleeding all over his bathroom floor and Rukawa's hand. They stop kissing for a moment to look at each other. Nice style by Prin here, who drew Sendoh's blood in red amidst the black&white art. Rukawa brings his face close to Sendoh's once again, and they share another kiss.

*sigh*

#7: PAIN II

Sendoh and Rukawa are locked in a deep embrace. Well, actually, it's only Sendoh who has his arms around Rukawa… Rukawa is just standing there. ^^;; Obviously, at this point, Sendoh is also bleeding all over Rukawa's shirt. However, Rukawa's arms begin to move to embrace Sendoh after a few moments. This is when he sees the traces of blood on his own hands. He moves to bring himself out of Sendoh's embrace and asks Sendoh about it.

Sendoh, perhaps trying to evade the question by joking, tells Rukawa it's his menses. LOL!!! That earns him a punch from Rukawa. As Sendoh is doubled over in pain, Rukawa demands him to tell him the truth.

Sendoh replies with another question, asking Rukawa if he knows what he is thinking about right then. Sendoh tells Rukawa that he wants to do something other than kissing. Rukawa asks, "like what?"… Just when you think Sendoh would do something very romantic and sexual, he starts poking at Rukawa's nose and stretching Rukawa's mouth in a joking manner. Rukawa touches his mouth in pain. Sendoh panicks. Rukawa shows him it's only a joke. A piece of humor in an otherwise very angsty scene. ^_^

Rukawa takes Sendoh's hand and takes out the bandage. When he sees the wound, he asks Sendoh if he got cut by a knife. Sendoh tells him that he cut himself while preparing a meal. Rukawa gives him the look of death. Sendoh finally relents and promises that he will explain what happened to him.

Meanwhile, Minami is off to leave and is in the train station, when he sees Kishimoto there waiting for him. A guy called Masao called Kishimoto to tell him that Minami has been missing. He also knows what Minami did to Rukawa. But Minami tells him that Rukawa is okay and that he has failed yet again, saying that he is ashamed of himself. Kishimoto tells him that it's not the only reason… once again, a hint that maybe Minami has romantic feelings for Rukawa. o_O Kishimoto tells him that they better get going.

Back to our lovable duo… Sendoh is narrating to Rukawa about what happened between him and Minami, while Rukawa is bandaging his hand (Rukawa is wearing a B.C. Ryonan shirt too at this point). I must say, Rukawa does a better job of it than Koshino. *snickers* Rukawa tells him that what happened to him isn't a big matter, but Sendoh insists that it's important to HIM. Awwww… *sigh* Sendoh reflects on what he would do if he got an injury worse than this, and if he could never play basketball again… however, one look at Rukawa, and he tells himself that in exchange of this injury, he got a better and more important gain. ^___^

Hmmm… that seems to be a good way to end it, but there are a few pages more showing Kishimoto and Minami. *grumbles* Okay, can you just read the translation in Linez's site? Just kidding. Minami asks Kishimoto how he got there. Kishimoto tells him that he rushed there as soon as he heard the news, and this is also why he doesn't have any money with him. Awww, how sweet. Looks like Minami doesn't have to look very far to find the man who will love him. *cough* Then Minami romanticizes about the clouds, telling Kishimoto that the clouds there are different than the ones in Osaka. He then asks Kishimoto if they can be stronger than they are now. Kishimoto gives him comfort and says yes.
