Welcome to the Fushigi Yugi Site!!!!
FUSHIGI YUGI is a series about a "normal" junior high school girl who gets sucked into a book and the only way to get out is to save all of the characters by becoming the Suzaku no Miko (Priestess of Suzaku in the dubbed version) and summoning the animal god of Suzaku to bring peace.
But it's not quite that easy. Before she summons Suzaku, first she has to find the 7 celestial warriors of Suzaku who's presence is necessary during the summoning ceremony of Suzaku. Second, she has to save her friend Yui who got sucked into the book later. She becomes Miaka's sworn enemy, due to the brainwashing efforts of Nakago, one of the Seiryu seven warriors. Yui then becomes the Seiryu no Miko and tries to summon Seiryu before Miaka can summon Seiryu.
Then, Miaka falls in love with....UH OH! Not gonna tell you!! Well, she falls in love...but can they be together?? Who will summon their animal god first...Miaka or Yui??? And which Suzaku warrior is actually a cross dresser??? =P
This is a wonderful series full of MANY MANY surprises (oh boy ::laughs::). It DEFINITELY keeps you wanting more. I guarantee....whether it's during, or at the end of an episode, you'll find yourself yelling at the TV screen (or computer screen, whichever you use)! I know I've caught myself many times...^_^
Don't find yourself understanding the MYTHOLOGY OF THE SERIES??? Well I'll explain it! ^_^
First, there are 4 animal gods that protect all four of the cardinal points:the North, South, East, and West. Simple enough..right? Each of the gods has a name: Genbu is of the North, Suzaku is of the South, Byakko is of the West, and Seiryu is of the East. Got it? Then keep reading! =)
Second, under each animal god, there are seven constellations (which of course are represented by each of the seven warriors of each cardinal point). The Miko (priestess) has to find the seven warriors in order to summon the animal god at the ceremony.
Third, as for the Miko (priestess), she has to be a girl from another world, and a virgin. In other words, basically someone with a good heart and clean and untouched. After summoning the animal god, they merge with it. When they merge with the animal god, they are granted any three wishes they want...but it drains their energy any time they do it (due to the use of the power of the animal god). If the Miko has a weak heart, she can be completely engulfed by the animal god. If not, she will be able to return to her own world and regain her normal life again, with the three wishes she made.
