W: How did you become a CCS fan?
M: I fell in love with Cardcaptors the first time I saw it back in
June of 2000. I saw the English version first before I saw the original
Japanese version. I thought, what a neat idea, you could have a different
card for each episode. I loved the storyline idea. I loved Cardcaptors so
much I wanted to make a web site for it, but not just any site, one that I
myself would enjoy going back to again and again. So I did some surfing to
see what was already out there and what has already been done. I noticed two
things, first only a couple of sites had any screen shots, and second no one
could tell me what kinds of toys or other products to buy. The latter was a
big thing for me. I was ready to buy some CCS/CC stuff, and lots of it!!!!!
I decided to do the research and make my site devoted to the marketing and
merchandise for both Cardcaptor Sakura AND Cardcaptors. Remember, I saw and
fell in love with the English version first. I learned about the original
series the more I looked. I spent hundreds of hours sending emails, getting
permission, making inquiries, surfing, etc. to get all I could to make my
web site. Getting permission was important to me, because I would not simply
“steal” images from others who had already done the work. If I did, then
my site would not be unique as I would only have the same images as everyone
else. It was during the course of the research where I learned to appreciate
the excellent work CLAMP had done in creating a wonderful series we know as
Cardcaptor Sakura.
W: Which character can you relate to most?
M: You know that’s a tough one. I would imagine I relate to Sakura
the most. I’ve been tossed into rough situations before and was able to
pull through, just like Sakura.
W: There are a lot of CCS fans visiting
your site. What do you think is your 'edge' from other CCS sites? When did
you start doing it?
M: I don’t know if I have an “edge.” I try to think about what
I like to see when I visit a site, and then I do it. For example, no one
likes to visit a site that hasn’t been updated in a long time. I try to
update as often as I can to make sure that each time you visit my site,
there’s something new to see or do. To answer the second question, I
started my site around July 2000, but didn’t really upload or advertise
anything until August 17, 2000, which is what I consider the first day my
site was online.
W: Most CCS web masters/mistresses cannot
update their site regularly because of their busy schedule. How do you find
time doing yours?
M: I make the time, simple as that. I also try to plan in advance
what I want to do, so when I get home from work, I can check the schedule
and know what to do right away. You have to enjoy what you are doing, and
most importantly why you are doing it. I see lame excuses written on other
fan site updates all the time as to why they can’t update, like “I have
too much homework” or “school has started so I have no time anymore.”
I mean, who wants to read that? You obviously had enough time to write the
excuse, right? [I’m in graduate school working on my Master’s Degree,
and attend classes all year long. I guarantee you I have more homework then
you do.] Other times I’ve seen where the authors will write something
like, “I’ve lost interest in the show so I’m not updating anymore.”
No one wants to read that either. I really love CCS and I enjoy working on
my site. That’s why I make the time to update. BTW, sometimes website
owners feel they have to have a large update in order to update in the first
place. That’s not true. I try to update a little bit each day. If I did
everything all at once, what would be left? If I do a little bit each day,
then there’s something new.
