Macross Synopsis

Macross just like Transformers was one of the first to make anime well know in America. And for those who think they have never seen the series ever before does a show called Robotech ring a bell. Still doesn't well then allow me to jog your memory. Macross/Robotech starts of with the earth in a period of Global War. That's when a spaceship crash-lands on earth. Because of this event the earth decides to reconcile in order to rebuild the spaceship and learn its secrets as well as mysteries. So then the series jumps 10 years ahead to the day of the unveiling of the rebuilt ship. Thus we are introduced to the main characters Hikaru a.k.a Rick and Misa a.k.a Lisa. So with a brief introduction to the characters the original owners of the ship decided to crash the event in an attempt to reclaim the ship. Meanwhile Hikaru is in the cockpit of the new veritech fighters that transformer into three different forms.

During Hikaru's briefing of the veritech by his best friend Roy, Roy runs off telling Rick he has some business to take care of (going to fight the aliens)that is when Misa mistakens Hikaru for a veritech fighter. Thus he is forced to fight the aliens in this mech he is not familiar with. During the battle Hikaru meets up with Roy and eventually meets Minnmay another major character in this series. Eventually the battle becomes to fierce on Earth that the Captain of the SDF 1 Henry J. Gloval has no other choice but to execute a space fold in order to teleport the ship to the edge of Pluto. Unfortunately during the space fold Macross city and its citizens teleport with the ship. So with the first 3 episodes past us we know that now instead of the crew living on board the SDF 1 we have Macross city inside it too. Eventually when the fighting calms down Hikaru decideds to become a veritech pilot in an attempt to impress Minnmay the girl he meet during the first battle. So Hikaru does indeed become a pilot but learns that Misa the one who mistaken him for a veritech pilot during the first battle is his superior officer.

The two at first hate each other Hikaru thinks Misa is a stubborn old maid and Misa thinks Hikaru is a leech and a disrespectful moron. Also Minnmay becomes a major star during the series first she wins a Macross beauty pagent and becomes a music/movie star. So the rest of the series revolves around the SDF 1 battling the Zentradi fleet in an attempt to get back to earth. During the series a love triangle forms between Hikaru, Minnmay, and Lisa. Eventually in the last episode Hikaru realizes who he truly loves. So as you can see Macross/Robotech is a perfect example of an anime that acts more like a soap opera but either way there is lots of action and tons of suspense in the series. So I highly recommend Macross/Robotech to any true fan of anime you will truly love it. And on a side note there is also a movie that is a basic retelling of the series with lots of modifications and plot changes that make it quite different sort of like the Escaflowne movie which was released recently in Japan
