G-Saviour Movie Review
Synopsis:
For all those who are curious as to what G-Saviour is exactly, it is
a live action Gundam movie made for T.V. film. The year is Universal
Century 223; the once known earth Federation from the original Mobile
Suit Gundam is no more. In its place is (CONSENT) which stands for the
Congress of Settlement Nations, the earth and colonies now face a crisis
of famine. The story focuses on an ex Consent pilot by the name of Mark
Curran, who saves a pilot from an underwater dilemma. Once this scene
is over, we are introduced to Lieutenant Colonel Jack Halle who informs
Mark that intruders have penetrated the Under Sea agricultural base
named Hydro-Gen. Mark witnesses that the Lieutenant Colonel will use
any means necessary including Excessive force to stop the so-called
Rebels. Eventually Mark gets to meet with the leader of the so called
rebels of the Gaea colony and learns that they were trying to steal
a formula that would solved the worlds hunger problems apparently Consent
is bent on keeping this formula as a secret.
Mark eventually is framed by Jack Halle and is an outlaw on earth, and
decides to go with the rebels to uncover Consent's true intentions with
the help of the Eluminati (another rebel group) and a new Gundam Prototype
called G-Saviour. Consent will take any measures including inciting
a war with the Gaean colony to cover the secret of this new formula.
Will Mark and the Gaean be able to stop the Consent from destroying
the solution to the Global famine crisis or will this small colony and
the G-Savior be enough to stop this massive threat you have to see the
movie to find out!
Review:
This movie was a real shock the plot was well concise.
There are a few plot holes but don't affect the story too much. The
characters are believable for the exception of Mimi, Mark's girlfriend
who at the end of the movie seems way to over the top when we learn
a secret she has been keeping. Cynthia, who is Lady Une's voice actress,
plays a good role as the head of the rebels and the daughter of the
Gaean Leader and comes off very strong. There are a couple of other
characters like Cynthia's assistants that really don't make you feel
like their character is important but overall it is a valiant effort
on their part. As for the special effects they are pretty good being
the fact that this movie was on a very limited budget. All the Gundam
and other Mech's are done in CGI and they move as fluidly as the anime
itself.
They really come alive in the CGI and having more than one mech on the
screen at one time was shockingly not a problem and was captured perfectly
to some other famous Gundam dog fights like in Char's Counterattack!
The music in the film is decent the G-Saviour Opening theme, which is
done in instrumental, really makes it feel like a Mech movie. The sounds
for the special effects are done well and the Gundam effects sound just
like the anime did. Overall G-Saviour is a very entertaining project
that Sunrise did for the 20th Anniversary of Gundam. This movie was
made in English it is not dubbed over. A Japanese dub track was just
added in for the Dvd release but in fact this movie was made in English
and that was the way Sunrise intended people to watch it. Overall G-Saviour
is a very entertaining film that keeps the Gundam franchise alive and
well. It is a vast improvement over the other anime turned live action
film entitled Dragon Ball the Magic begins!

Character Info:
Mark Curran: Mark is a former Consent Pilot
that now works for Hydro-Gen; He eventually gets caught up in the Gaean
rebel conspiracy and is framed for murder by Jack Halle. Due to certain
events that happen in the film he becomes the pilot of the new Gundam
Prototype the G-Saviour.
Cynthia Graves: Cynthia is the leader of
the Gaean rebels; she is one half of the scientist that may have created
a formula that will solve the earth and colonies problems. Her father
is the leader of the Gaean Colony. Cynthia is very intelligent and very
sassy at times and plays a major role in G-Saviour story line. The voice
actor of Lady Une plays her!
Lieutenant Jack Halle: He is one of the
top Lieutenants that consent has, he is a first class mobile suit pilot.
He is very cunning and crafty, care for about nothing or no one besides
his military career. He will go to any lengths to get even with Mark
even framing him for murder. Jack is an important character in this
film, however he pales in comparison to other Gundam villains like Zechs
and Char!
Dieter: Dieter is one of the two assistants
to Cynthia; he is a mobile suit pilot and assists Cynthia in reclaiming
the formula that can possibly solve the famine crisis. He pilots your
standard GM and still acts like a novice
Kobe: Kobe is the second of the assistants
to Cynthia; she is very energetic and very well trained in the field
of hacking and research. She plays a very small role and very little
info is diverged about her in the film!
Mimi Devere: Mimi is Mark's girlfriend
and works for the intelligence department at Consent. She treats Mark
basically like a child and seems more like a mother figure to him than
a girlfriend. Eventually she takes drastic measures when her relationship
with Mark turns for the worse. Don't be fooled Mimi looks are very deceiving
along with her personality.
Chief Counselor Graves: He is the father of Cynthia Graves
and is the leader of the colony known as Gaea. He is a pacifist leader
compared to the Consent ones. His only care is for the safety of his
colony and the well being of his daughter. Counselor Graves has mixed
feelings towards Mark but eventually puts that to the side when Mark
defends the colony!
