Yugi Moto
If you knew him, you probably wouldn't even expect him to challenge someone else. Ninth grader Yugi Moto was given the Millennium Puzzle by his grandpa who runs a game shop, and when he solved it he was given strange powers. The Millennium Puzzle had inside it the power of Yami Yugi.

Yami Yugi
Yami Yugi has strange powers and is extremely brave. He can only come out when Yugi uses his Millennium Puzzle. He has incredible trust in his deck and believes that it greatly helped him, calling this belief the "Heart of the Cards." His incredible effort and unwillingness to hold back is sometimes a problem, however, as he showed in a later duel with Seto Kaiba.

Seto Kaiba
Seto Kaiba is the wealthy owner of KaibaCorp, Yugi's rival, and a master of Duel Monsters. His deck holds the only 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons in existence. He is the world champion and WAS undefeated until Yugi dueled him. He never holds anything back and can apparently fight as well as he duels. Among the few things he does care about are his company, his rivalry with Yugi, and most importantly his little brother Mokuba. He has his own holographic dueling arena much like those at Duelist Kingdom (and may have invented it) and is credited with inventing the duel disk system.

Mokuba Kaiba
Mokuba is Seto Kaiba's little brother. He is mostly seen in the show as a pawn in Pegasus' attempts to take over KaibaCorp. He has incredible faith in his big brother.

Joey Wheeler
Yugi's best friend Joey is very proud and sometimes doesn't think. He has a tendency to fight with Tristan.

Tristan Taylor
Joey's other best friend.  He often jokes around with Joey and is just as thick-headed.

Tea Gardner
Tea wants to study ballet. She is one of the people who hangs out with Yugi and actually has a brain.

Bakura
Not much is known about Bakura, not even his last name. He holds the Millennium Ring.

Maximillion Pegasus
The man who wants KaibaCorp and one of the only two known to have defeated Yugi, he holds the Millennium Eye and is the cause of all of Yugi's troubles.
