Characters

Professor Elm-Head professor at New Bark Town.  He'll give you a starting Pokémon, either Chikorita, Totodile, or Cyndaquil.  He'll also ask you, later on, to take care of a Togepi egg and will give you a S.S. Ticket after you defeat the Elite 4 and Lance.  Finally, he will give you a Master Ball after you defeat all of Johto's Gym Leaders.

Mom-Will hold some of your money and buy you items and dolls for your room with it.  She will also be the one to change your Pokegear over to DST, if applicable to your area.

You (your own choice of name)-Pokémon Trainer who's eager to go out and learn about the world of Pokémon.  You would rather train for power and love and become a great trainer by doing so.

Your rival (your own choice of name)-Trainer from your town who stole a Pokémon, that just so happens to be the opposite of what you chose, from Professor Elm's Laboratory.  He trains only for power, not for love.

Mr. Pokémon-Big Pokémon researcher.  Gives you the mysterious egg to give to Professor Elm, which will turn out to be a Togepi.

Professor Oak-Famous Pokemon Professor from Pallet that will give you a Pokedex when you get the mysterious egg from Mr. Pokemon.  You'll also be able to get your Pokedex evaluated by him and gain access to Mt. Silver through him after you defeat all of the Kanto Gym Leaders.

Kurt-Creator of the Pokeball.  Will make special Pokeballs from apricorns after you free the Slowpoke well from Rocket Control

Falkner-Violet City Gym Leader that uses flying Pokémon.  Gives you the Zephyr Badge and Mud-Slap after you defeat him.

Bugsy-Azelia Town Gym Leader that uses bug Pokémon.  Gives you the Hive Badge and Fury Cutter after you defeat her.

Whitney-Goldenrod City Gym Leader that uses normal Pokémon.  Gives you the Plain Badge and Attract after you defeat her.

Esuine-Suicune hunter that wants to capture Suicune.  He will later on give you the chance to get the Rainbow Wing after you catch all the Legendary Dogs.

Morty-Etruteak City Gym Leader that uses ghost Pokémon.  He will give you the Fog Badge and Shadow Ball after you defeat him.

Chuck-Cianwood Gym Leader that uses fighting Pokémon.  He will give you the Storm Badge and Dynamic Punch after you defeat him.

Jasmine-Olivine City Gym Leader that uses steel Pokémon.  She will give you the Mineral Badge and Iron Tail after you defeat her.

Pryce-Mahogany Town Gym Leader that uses ice Pokémon.  He will give you the Glacier Badge and Icy Wind after you defeat him.

Clair-Blackthorn City Gym Leader that uses dragon Pokémon.  She will give you the Rising Badge and Dragonbreath after you defeat he and pass the quiz in the Dragon's Lair.

Will-Elite 4 Member that uses psychic Pokémon.

Koga-Gym Leader turned Elite 4 Member that uses poison Pokémon.

Bruno-Elite 4 Member that uses rock/fighting Pokémon.

Karen-Elite 4 Member that uses Dark Pokémon.

Lance-Champion of the Pokémon League and companion through the first battle with Team Rocket in Mahogany.  He is known for using mostly dragon types and has 3 Dragonite with him.

Brock-Pewter City Gym Leader that uses rock Pokémon.  Will give you the Boulder Badge after you defeat him.

Misty-Cerulean City Gym Leader that uses water Pokémon.  Will give you the Cascade Badge after you defeat her.

Lt. Surge-Vermilion City Gym Leader that uses electric Pokémon.  Will give you the Thunder Badge after you defeat him.

Erica-Celadon City Gym Leader that uses grass Pokémon.  Will give you the Rainbow Badge and Giga Drain after you defeat her.

Janine-Koga's Daughter and the Fuschia City Gym Leader that uses poison Pokémon.  Will give you the Soul Badge and Toxic after you defeat her.

Sabrina-Saffron City Gym Leader that uses psychic Pokémon.  Will give you the Marsh Badge after you defeat her.

Blaine-Cinnabar Island Gym Leader, moved to the Seafoam Islands after the eruption, who uses fire Pokémon.  Will give you the Volcano Badge after you defeat him.

Blue-Viridian City Gym Leader that uses an assorted set of Pokémon.  Will give you the Earth Badge after you defeat him.

Red-Your final competitor on your way up to being the master of Pokémon.  Resides in Mt. Silver at the end of the cave.
