Background
Brock is just introduced at first as a gym leader of the Pewter City Gym.  However, at the end of the episode of the battle, we find out that he is to be a main character.  From raising his younger brothers and sisters, he has learned how to sew and cook very well.  At the end of that episode, he is also reunited with his estranged father, who takes charge of the gym while Brock is to be away.  Brock, just before Ash went out onto his Orange Islands journey, decided to stay with a famous professor.  However, at the beginning of the Johto Journeys, Brock is seen back with Professor Oak because he left behind the professor.  Brock is now back with Ash and Misty to form the old group for the Johto Journies.

Personality
 Brock, at times, seems to be falling in love with every woman in site.  That was the major reason he stayed with the professor for a while.  However, when Ash mentions the professor, Brock goes into a strange trance of seeming to be sadness and shame.  Whenever a woman comes into Brock's sight, he tries to woo her over, but is normally dragged away by Misty being held by the ear.  Along all of the journies, Brock, seems to be the voice of wisdom for Ash during all the battles.  He is normally the one who tries to help him out the most whenever Ash needs any help in a battle.
