When Someone Looks Like You
Yuko Izawa looks at the place of the body that is clearly marked on the floor in white. She demands to know why she is here and if the body is here is should be Yoko’s fault. Yoko looks sadly at Yuko but doesn’t make a big protest. Megure, on the other hand, has to restrain Kogorou, from attacking Yuko. Megure explains the case and Yuko still says that she can’t be at fault because has never been here in her life. Kogorou asks her, if that is the case, why her earring is here. She says that she lost it and in an unauthentic manner thanks him for finding it. She turns and says that she is going to the bathroom. Kogorou persists Yuko decides that she is done being interviewed and yells that she has things to do. She says that she obviously doesn’t have as much as number one: Yoko and she says that when word of the murder gets out Yoko might get less work than her and she goes away laughing. Conan notices that from behind Yoko and Yuko’ hair looks the same. He attempts to tell Kogorou and Megure but Kogorou yells at Conan and Ran takes him away. She pats him on the head and tells him to leave the work to her father. Conan sees the irony in this but says nothing. Conan hears somebody ask where Shinichi is. It’s Ran. She hugs Conan and wonders where Shinichi, the deduction fan went. She looks down still hugging Conan and continues to wonder where Shinichi is. Conan, remembering what Agasa said, yells to Ran that Shinichi will be ok and that he will come home and tells her not to worry. Ran lets go of Conan in surprise… Conan realising how stupid he must of sounded. Says he means that he is very sure of Shinichi’s return.
It is getting even later in the night and Yuko is getting a little more ticked off about being here. She asks again why she cannot leave and irritably picks up a statue-of-liberty-shaped-lighter and starts to smoke. Conan looks at the lighter and looks at it whitest looking as if he’s just playing with it. Conan comments about the strange shape. Ran tells him to stop. He then says how funny it is that she knew how to use it even though it is her first time here. She gasps and the cigarette falls out of her mouth. Megure asks how she knew how to use the strange lighter. Yuko desperately says that she’s seen one like it at her friend’s house. Conan asks Yoko where the bathroom is and says he doesn’t know because it’s his first time here. Kogorou gets the hint and asks Yuko how she knew where the bathroom was too. Yuko splutters but can’t answer. Kogorou starts accusing her of killing the man. He says that Yuko must have done it to cause unrest at Yoko’s apartment.
Yuko, seeing no way out of it, tells the truth. She says that she had been here before and it wasn’t the first time either. She had been braking into Yoko’s apartment to find a scandalous letter or something to cause Yoko to lose all her fame with the key she‘d found at the TV studio. She’d looked though a lot of things but didn’t find anything but left everything a mess. Earlier on in the day she’d come down when Yoko was out. Suddenly she saw a man standing in the doorway. He came forward to attack her but she resisted and ran off.
Suddenly Yoko cries out that she did know him! She tells everyone that he was her boyfriend in high school. Yamagishi says her name but Yoko says that she can’t lie anymore. Megure asks if she killed him to settle a fight. Yoko tells him that she wouldn’t kill him and he dumped her in the first place.
The three suspects are:
The manager Yamagishi: Who hid some hair
Yoko Okino: The ex-girlfriend of the deceased
Yuko Izawa: Who broke into Yoko’s apartment and had a fight with him.
Conan walks to where the white line of the body is. He looks and sees something in the corner of his eye. It’s a dent in the floor beside the body. He thinks of the body and suddenly all becomes clear…
He turns to Kogorou and sees that he is looking very triumphant. Kogorou turns the suspects and declares that he knows whom the killer is…
