Welcome to My Site

This Website has been created for MHS 530 at Western Carolina University. The purpose of this website is to inform the students of the class on how online dietary journaling can be beneficial to dietary behavior.

Hi, my name is Cara and this website will hopefully give you some information on how dietary journaling can be beneficial. I decided on this topic because of my interest in Nutrition & Dietetics. I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology and my masters will be in Health Sciences. Due to my background, I have found particular interest in dietary behaviors.

Nutrition information is rampant on the internet, and online journaling websites have become more common in the past few years. Dietary journaling used to be a lengthy process that involved keeping a journal and buying a book that had the nutrition information of each individual food. People were also left to calculate their own BMI, and estimated caloric need. This takes a lot of time, and can become cumbersome over long term usage.

With the added accessibility of the internet, online journaling has become an easy and quick way to record your dietary intake. People can now log on anywhere, and at anytime to record their dietary behaviors. You can even log on to the website on your cell phone or PDA. Difficulty in dietary journaling is a thing of the past!

Through the use of online journaling we can help increase positive dietary behavior due to self-directed education, self-monitoring, accountability and reinforcement.

Technology plays a vital role in the ability to use online journaling. Technology allows for easy access to information anywhere, and at anytime. Education can be gained through the websites, and calculations of calories and nutrients are done automatically. Technology can also be fun, due to the instant feedback, and easy to use websites.
