Website Consistency
You should keep the look of your website consistent. This means a standard use of fonts, colors, image styles, layout styles, navigation style, footers, etc.
Check out the following web pages! Can you see why the second page would be considered to be badly designed?
The first page uses consistent font, colour and alignment throughout, while the second page is not consistent and looks like the different sections were created by a number of people. The choice of colour is poor, the text is difficult to read and the alignment is all over the place. This is inconsistency at it's worst.
Key Design Tips in Relation to Consistency
Therefore when designing your web pages make sure you are consistent and take the following points into consideration:
Use the same page layout for each page of your site. Create a page template and use this as your blueprint for each of your pages.
Use the same fonts and text colors throughout your site.
Your background colors should remain the same on each page.
Your logo should appear the same and located at the same place on each page.
Define your link colors in the body tag to match your overall color scheme.
Your navigation scheme should be the same on all pages.
