Website Colors

Colors can make webpages more readable and can be one of the most important elements of a website. Your choice of colours should never be extreme. The key to using colour is contrast. Make sure you specify colours for your text and links that contrast well with your background colour.

Colours don't always look the same on all browsers so it is important that you use browser safe colours. Browser safe colours are colours that look the same on all web browsers. Have a look at the browser safe colours, you should use only these colours in your webpages. Don't worry about the codes associated with each colour for the moment, I will discuss those later on.

Check out the following web pages! Can you see why the first page would be considered a better designed page?

Good webpage colour

Bad webpage colour

The first page uses colours that compliment the subject matter and are relatively pleasing to the eye. The second page uses the colour Red which is an inapproriate colour for the content of the webpage. Red does not exactly add to the mood of a sleeping baby.
