These miniature dulcimers can be played. But the silver strings
break easily if they are tuned too tightly so I don't play them.
I made the fronts, backs & sides from sheets of veneer, the
heads, fretboards & tails from wood. An X-Acto knife and hand
saw were used for cutting and carving. The hour-glass dulcimer is
fashioned after the pattern I used for making my full-sized dulcimer.
The silver strings are actually fine silver unwound from a bass
guitar string. The pegs can be turned and chalk keeps them from
slipping.
