ROCKY

A Real American Hero

Applying Rocky

Rocky IV was the first movie that I can remember going to see at the theaters. My Mom took me when I was about 5, her being a big Rocky fan too. My Dad was never quite into movies like my mother or I, but he would watch them on video sometimes. As a child I idolized Rocky, I wanted to be a boxer, I wanted to wear a hat just like him, I wanted to have a trainer like Mick, I wanted to "eat lightning and crap thunder" just like Rocky.

When I would tackle projects I would always try to have a Rocky -like mentality and my mother would try and instill Rocky's work ethic in me. It was Rocky's determination that drove him and my parents would try to show me how to be like that, with everything. My family had to work for everything we got, and so did Rocky. In Rocky I, no one gave him a chance but he took the world champion to a decision. He only lost the decision because he was a no name. Rocky is a great example of the saying "where there is a will, there is a way." No one, other than Rocky, even his manager gave him a shot and he came out of that fight almost victorious. It was a moral victory for Rocky.

Rocky connects alot with my family because he was such a lovable character. He wasn't the smartest, the wittiest or brightest but he had heart. He acted with his whole heart and never let his mind get in the way. His soul was pure, his mind innocent and his heart was strong. He was a real American Hero.
