Your mom snickers as you tear the rubber band from your hair and she speaks around the part-way opened door, "So, what time is he coming?"
"11, which gives me," you check your watch, "exactly 21 minutes."
"You sure it isn't 21 minutes and 35 seconds?"
"Mom, please!"
"Calm down, you look great and you WILL be ready on time!"
"Not at this rate," you snap.
"You have been at it since like 7 this morning!!" your mom smiles.
"Well, my hair just..." you run your fingers through it, "ugggh.. it won't work!"
"Aren't you going to show him the beach? After all, it IS a big part of this city!"
"Yeah I was planning on it, but what does that have to do with anything? I mean, look at this mess..." you take one tiny section of hair from the perfection, "this part just WON'T curl under!"
"What part? Oh pulease! It looks perfect! No one would ever notice that itty bitty strand of hair- talk about paranoia!!"
"Mom, this is Brian! Need I say more?" You state.
She smiles and you know she completely understands, "Here let me do it," she grabs this supposedly "uncooperative" section and curls it under with ease, "That better?"
"I guess," you reply stubbornly but can't help smiling at your reflection in the mirror.
"See? What do I always say? Let your mother help!"
You try to erase the smile off your face before she gets too full of her accomplishment. Afterall, you wouldn't want her to know that she was right!
She continues, "I don't see why you're fussing about your hair so much when it will just get wet in the water when you stop at the beach!"
"I repeat, this isn't just anybody, this is Brian Littrell," you smile and think to yourself, "That is right, it is the Brian Littrell!"
"Yeah, yeah, you have told me already," she says as she leaves the bathroom.
You look into the mirror, take a deep breath, smile, and think, "Uh huh... Brian Littrell!" Then you say aloud, "Ok, focus, 10 minutes!" Quickly you put on some more lip shimmer and put it into your too cute beach tote which contains your sunglasses, beach towel, sun tan lotion, and other necessities for a day of fun in the sun.
You fix your outfit again, fidgeting with the swim suit you are wearing beneath your clothes. "Ok, I am finished!" You exclaim and head towards your bedroom.
You enter your room and pick up the phone. Your mother's voice echoes from the receiver... "Oh you should see her honey, she looks great!"...
"Hey mom?" you cut in, "Sorry to interupt this unbelievably interesting chat session, but I need the phone."
She sighs, "Oh, better go, our teenage daughter needs to use the phone!"
"Bye honey... both of you...be home at 6 in time for dinner ok?" the other voice on the phone says.
"Bye dad," you say.
"Bye," you mom says and hangs up the phone.
You quickly dial your friend.
"Hello?"
"Hey girl, it is me!"
"Oh, you haven't left yet?" she asks sounding surprised.
"Come on, I couldn't leave without talking to you first!" you say.
"Aww... how sweet! Remember to call me RIGHT when you get home, ok?" she reminds you.
"Why would I do that?" you say, playing with her a little.
"To fill me in on everything of course!!!!" she exclaims in response.
"Seriously, girl, I was just playin! You should know me well enough by now to know when I am kidding around!!"
"Oh yeah... haha... not funny though!" she responds.
"You will be the FIRST person I call, promise!" you insist.
"Cool!"
You sigh in return.
"I am so jealous," she says.
Another sigh.
"You there?" she ponders.
"Mmm Hmmm" you say lightly almost in a sigh.
"I mean you are going to spend the day with the one and only Brian Thomas Littrell!!!" she continues.
"Hmm.. yeah."
"That is SO not fair! But, I AM happy for you."
"If you want, I will bring your name up in conversation, you know the whole 'my best friend..... blah blah blah...' deal!" you laugh nervously, "That is if I can even talk."
She laughs, "cool, I would rather meet him, but at least he will have heard of me now.. I guess that is one extremely SMALL step ahead!"
"Maybe, if all goes well, you will get to meet him," you are silent, "But we wouldn't want to get our hopes up!"
"Wouldn't want to do that," your friend says.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you how excited yet nervous I," the doorbell cuts you off. "Oh my God," you whisper and look at your watch.. 10:59... 11:00, he is good!! :)
"What?"
"Oh my God," you repeat.
"He there?"
"Ye... ye... yeah!!!" you stutter.
"Oh man! Have a great time!" she says quickly.
"Sure, call you later!" you manage to get out even in the excitement and nervousness that rushes through you.
"You better."
"Bye." you hang up the phone.
You take a deep breath as your mom calls for you. You hear her beginning conversation, "So you must be Brian."
"Yes, nice to meet you."
"Just a moment, I will go get her."
She comes to get you as you leave your room, "He is here," she whispers.
All you can do is smile. You walk to the door and take sight of the beautiful man waiting for you, the same man you had been dreaming about for years, Brian Littrell. You continue to smile, "Hey."
"Hi. You ready?" the angel speaks. He looks excited.
"Yeah," you walk beside him to the convertible rent-a-car.
"Have a great time!" your mom yells behind you.
"Thanks," Brian turns to face her, smiles, and waves.
"So, no Beemer?"
"Nope, I guess you will have to settle for this." he replies.
"Geez, this car is too normal for me, Brian!" you smile as you joke.
"Thanks, I try." he replies. He smiles and opens the door for you.
"Why thank you sir," you say trying to be serious.
"Pleasure is all mine, mademoiselle!" he bows and you giggle at his gesture. But surely you know that the fun and playful joking isn't going to end here! :)
