Daves Colorfull Radios Page 9Welcome to page 9 of Daves Colorfull Radios. On this page I did it a little different from the others. There is one wood radio, one Catalin plastic radio, and one beetle plastic radio. Enjoy the page. Pictured below is the 1941 Sentinel model 212 table set. There is some swatches of color in this plaskon radio. Notice too the top is shaped like a beetle. This name stuck to this style of radio. The other nice styling feature is the radios dial. Quite fancy. The photos of the Sentinel 212 and 284 are from Classic Radio Gallery. I have permision to use the photos which are copywrited. 1938 Sears Silvertone Model 4663
Here is another striking designed radio from Sears. This 1938 Sears radio has the sweeping waterfall styled speaker grill work along with a very attractive gold dial. Notice on the side in the front the sweeping tiger stripe venier. This adds color to this radio. This radio is a tall table set but is not a tombstone. I would like to have one in my collection! |
1946 Sentinel Model 284
Here is a Sentinel Catalin plastic radio. This a 1946 model so it one of the few post war Catalin models. This one has some dark swirls in the plastic. Notice the high gloss to this radio. This is how they look when polished. There is no stress cracks around the dial area on this one. Sentinel used a glass plate over the dial and as the radio aged the Catalin plastic shrunk and the glass did not so they wouls crack around the corners of the dials.
