Jimmie Johnson 2006 Race Comments

2-19- Daytona 500-Jimmie WINS! A great start, but seems like winning the "Great American Race", is a jinks! Let's hope not! Maybe Jimmie will win the championship this year.

2-26- Auto Club 500-Tried to win 2 in a row. Just didn't have the car. Will settle for 2nd place though! Not doing to bad for not having crew chief Chad Knaus due to a suspension.

3-12- UAW/DaimlerCrysler 400-WOW! WIN #2! That's 2 wins and a 2nd! Wins this race on the last lap! The only lap Jimmie led, the one that counted!

3-19- Golden Corral 500-Finished 8th. Not much to report on this race.

3-26- Food City 500-Bad day for Jimmie. Stated out with a first lap flat tire, then it was just downhill from there. Got banged around a lot and just couldn't get'er done this week! Finished 30th. Drops to 3rd in points.

4-2- Direct TV 500-Good day. Finished 3rd after Tony Stewart's strong arming tactics. Regains the point lead.

4-9- Samsung/Radio Shack 500-Rough day. Fought a bad handling car all day and came back from 2 laps down to finish 11th. Maintains the point lead.

4-22- Subway Fresh 500-Rough day, but managed a 9th place finish. Drops to 2nd in points.

4-30- Aaron's 499-Jimmie's 3rd WIN! Only led 3 laps, but led the one that counted. Good blocking on Tony Stewart. Regains point lead.

5-6- Crown Royal 400-Pulled it together at the end for a 12th place finish, after running 1 lap down most of the night. Got the lucky dog late in the race. Maintains point lead.

5-13- Dodge Charger 500-A near mishap on the last pit stop, may have cost Jimmie a win. Will have to settle for his 4th place finish!

5-20- Nextel All-Star Challenge*-Jimmie continues his domination at Lowes Motor Speedway by winning this all-star event. Jimmie will be going for his 4th Coca-Cola 600 win in a row next week.

5-28- Coca Cola 600-Good finish, 2nd! Stopped Jimmie's win streak at the Coca-Cola 600.

6-4- Neighborhood Excellence 400-Impressive run! Started 42nd, finished 6th! Looks like Jimmie needs to give his boss (Jeff Gordon) some lessons!

6-11- Pocono 500-Doing what he needs to maintain the point lead. Finished 10th.

6-18- Michigan 400-Finishes 6th in this rain shortened event.

6-25- Dodge/SaveMart 350K-Finished 10th! Hangs on to the point lead!

7-1- Pepsi 400-Bad day. Finished 32nd. Maintains point lead by 8 points.

7-9- USG Sheetrock 400-Mr. Consistant! Finished 6th. Maintains point lead.

7-16- Lenox Industrial Tools 300-Finished 9th. Pretty uneventful.

7-23- Pennsylvania 500-Doing what he needs to do to maintain the point lead. Finished 6th.

8-6- Brickyard 400-Jimmie WINS! Came back from an early flat tire to win this big event. He was the man at the end! Untouchable!

8-13- AMD @ the Glen-Finished 17th. Unable to come back like last week!

8-20- GFS Marketplace 400-Finished 13th. Flirting with losing the point lead. Matt Kenseth is closing in. Don't count Jeff Gordon out either!

8-26- Sharpie 500-Finished 10th and maintained the point lead.

9-3- Sony HD 500-Looses the point lead to Matt Kenseth. Finished 11th.

9-9- Chevy Rock and Roll 400-Finished 23rd. Starts the chase in 2nd. Needs to step it up a notch to win the championship.

9-17- Sylvania-Jimmie's chances for the championship are all but over. A 39th place finish after an early accident. He has dug himself a really big hole. It will take some bad luck for the other contenders to get Jimmie back in the chase.

9-24- Dover 400-Jimmie's troubles continue. Finishes 13th, but moves up to 8th in the points. It's not impossible to get back to the top in the chase, but it will not be easy. He will need some bad luck for the guys in front of him!

10-8- Banquet 400-Finishes 14th after leading most laps. Had to make a late pit stop for fuel, then got caught speeding on pit row. Should have finished in the top five, but the penalty put him back to the last car on the lead lap. Jimmie maintains 8th place in the standings 165 points out of 1st.

10-1- UAW-Ford 500-I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone would take out chase contenders to win a race. Brian Vickers took out Jimmie and Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the last lap to win. Vickers said it was unintentional, but you can't convince me! Vickers should have went with Jimmie instead darting back behind jr.and clipping the right rear of Jimmie's car. Finished 24th and only gained 9 points in the chase.

10-14- Bank of America 500-2nd place finish! Moves to 7th in points 146 out of 1st with 5 races left. Not impossible to win the championship, but it is highly unlikely. Only time will tell!

10-22- Subway 500-Jimmie WINS!!! Moves to 3 rd in points 41 popints out of 1st. Can he do it? 4 races to go, we'll soon find out.

10-29- Bass Pro Shops 500-Finishes 2nd! Moves to 23nd in points 26 points out of 1st! Looking good! Jimmie might pull it off! It's incredible to come back from 165 points down and now he's fighting for the point lead! Can't make any mistakes now!

11-5- Dickies 500-Jimmie takes over the point lead by 17 points over Matt Kenseth! Will he be able to hang on to it? Finished 2nd in this big event! Can't make any mistakes now.

11-12- Checker 500-Another 2nd place finish! Jimmie leads the chase by 63 points. Only has to finish 12th or better next week to win the championship!

11-19- Ford 400-Jimmie WINS the CHAMPIONSHIP! Finished 9th in the race. Jimmie won over 9 million dollars during the season! This has to be a record for one season. Not to mention the added bonus of 6.2 million for winning the championship! That's over 15 million in one season!
