Jeff Gordon 2007 Race Comments

2-18- Daytona 500-10th place finish. Had a good car. Had to start 42, but got into the top ten. Pushed into wall coming out of the 4th turn on the last lap and still finished 10th. Probably would have been better if not for the accident.

2-25- Auto Club 500-Finished 2nd! Just didn't have enough to catch Matt Kenseth. However, a great start to the season. Moves to 3rd in the points.

3-11- UAW/DaimlerCrysler 400-Another 2nd place finish! Just didn't have enough to beat Jimmie Johnson. A great start to the season for Jeff. I hope he can keep it up.

3-18- Kobalt Tools 500-Finished 12th. Handling problems kept Jeff out of this one.

3-25- Food City 500-Finished 3rd! The win was within his grasp, but spun the tires on the restart with 2 laps to go. I sure would like to see Jeff win a few races this year! Takes over the point lead. First race for the COT (Car of tommorow). First race for the Chevy Impala.

4-1- Goody's Cool Orange 500-Finished 2nd! Should have won, but he just couldn't take out his team mate Jimmie Johnson! I don't think Jeff was to thrilled with Jimmie!

4-15- Samsung 500-Another good car, but can't get the job done. Led the most laps and finished 4th. He's knocking at the door, but nobody is at home!

4-21- Subway Fresh 500-Jeff wins at Phoenix for the first time! First driver to win from the pole at Phoenix! Ties the record for career poles in the modern era! Ties Dale Earnhardt Sr. for career wins (76)! Only 2 tracks that Jeff has not won at, Texas and Homestead. Jeff is rewriting the history books again! Glad to see it! Jeff Gordon is back!!! Looks like somebody was home this week!

4-29- Aaron's 499-Win #2!! 2nd win in a row! 2nd win in a row from the pole! Takes sole possesion of 6th on the all time winners list (77), passing Dale Earnhardt Sr. Has sole possesion of poles won in modern era (60)! Ties Dale Earnhardt Jr. for number of wins at Talladega (5)! All this happens on Dale Earnhardts Sr. birthday! Dale Earnhardt's last win was at Talladega.

5-5- Jim Stewart Crown Royal 400-On the pole for the 4th race in a row! Finished 4th! Led the most laps! Jeff is diffenently back! Could this be the year? Only time will tell!

5-12- Dodge Avenger 500-WIN #3! 7th career win at Darlington! Fought off an over heating problem and still won! Some good calls from the pits!

5-19- Nextel All-Star Challenge*-Finished 11th in this non-point event after getting a flat tire in the last 20 lap segment.

5-27- Coca Cola 600-Taken out by Tony Raines after 62 laps! Finished 41st! First DNF of the season! Really unfair, but maintains point lead! However, a Hendrick team mate, Casey Mears, wins! That's 9 wins out of 12 races for Hendrick Motorsports!

6-3- Autism Speaks 400-Finished 9th. Just couldn't get a handle on this car.

6-10- Pocono 500-Wow! Some great pit strategy to win this rain shortened race!

6-17- Citizens Bank 400-Another 9th place finish with an ill handling car. Can't win them all!

6-24- Toyota/SaveMart 350K-100 point penalty for rule violation. Was it actually a violation? As I understand it, the car still fit the template! I guess Nascar needed to penalize Hendrick Motorsports because they have won to many races! Pretty severe penalty for such a minor offense. Crew chief suspended for 6 races. Jeff finished 7th after starting 41st! Still maintains point lead.

7-1- Lenox Industrial Tools 300-Finished 2nd! Should have won this one!

7-7- Pepsi 400-Good run. Finished 5th! Was leading with 8 laps to go, but couldn't hold'm off!

7-15- USG Sheetrock 400-Not such a great day, but finished 9th!

7-29- Brickyard 400-Finished 3rd! Just didn't have enough to get to that cry baby Tony Stewart! Of course Tony did get into Kevin Harvick and damaged his fender enough that Harvick lost 8 positions.

8-5- Pennsylvania 500-4th place finish! Started 11th, but got into the top 5 quickly and remained there for most of the race. Nobody could stay with the winner Kurt Busch. Jeff clinched a spot in the chase today. He only needed to finish 11th or better. If not for the 100 point penalty he got a few weeks ago, Jeff would have clinched last week!

8-12- Centurion Boats @ the Glen-Jeff had all but won this race. Led the most laps and was leading with 2 laps to go and spins himself out and allows cry baby Tony Stewart to win! Jeff was the car to beat! Nothing like beating yourself!

8-19- 3M Performance 400-Problems! Finished 27th after getting spun out late in the race and getting stuck in the wet grass in this 2 day rain delayed race!

8-25- Sharpie 500-Over adjusting, getting caught pitting under green and the yellow comes out and having the back of his car tore off, translates into a 19th place finish at Bristol. Not sa good day. I hope that Jeff gets rid of all this bad luck before the chase starts! That's 3 weeks in a row now!

9-2- Sharp Aquos 500-Caused an accident! Finished 22nd! Better get it together next week. Without a win next week, Jimmie Johnson will take over the point lead from the 6th position. This point system sucks!

9-8- Chevy Rock and Roll 400-Finishes 4th after leading the most laps. Really, this race meant nothing to Jeff unless he won. Looses the pointn lead to Jimmie Johnson due to the new point system implemented for the chase. It sucks! Under the old system, Jeff surely would have won another championship.

9-16- Sylvania 300-Had a good car but not good enough! Finished 2nd!

9-23- Dodge Dealers 400-Struggled all day and finished 11th. Just enough to regain the point lead. Needs a good run next week to hold on to it!

9-30- LifeLock 400-Had a good car, but to little to late! Finished 5th and looses point lead to Jimmie Johnson. Down by 6 points.

10-7- UAW-Ford 500-WIN!!! Need a couple more! Takes back point lead.

10-13- UAW-GM Quality 500-Another WIN!!! A little luck coming into play here! Hope he keeps it up!

10-21- Subway 500-Finished 3rd! Leads the Chase by 53 points over Jimmie Johnson. Posted his 24th top-10 finish in 30 races at Martinsville and his 26th of the season. 4 more races to go. Can Jeff hang on for his 5th Championship?

10-28- Pep Boys Auto 500-Finished 7th. Maintains a slim 9 point lead over Jimmie Johnson. No room for errors now. Needs to win!

11-4- Dickies 500-Finished 7th! Loses point lead to Jimmie Johnson. Jeff is down by 30 points. To much major adjustment to the car when finess is required.

11-11- Checker 500-Finished 10th. Now 86 points down in the chase with one race left. Doesn't look good for Jeff. Needs for something bad to happen to Jimmie Johnson next week.

11-18- Ford 400-Finishes 4th. Takes 2nd in the point standings. Breaks the record for most top 10's in one season (30)! 30 top tens and didn't win the championship? What's wrong with this picture? This is the second time Jeff has been beat out of the championship because NASCAR changed the point system. Just have to look toward next year and hope that Jeff can continue on the same path as this year.
