At the last decade, in the 60s to 80s most of the electronic appliances are expensive and durable. At that time when any of these stuffs spoil or not functioning, most of the time people will send for repair because the costs for repair are cheaper (these including the spare parts and labour cost) then replace with a new set.
To repair electronic stuff need skills. In order manage the skill take years, but when technologies advance, these kinds of skills are replace by machines or computers. Because of these some of the industries are out of business because cannot catch up with the technologies changes, investments on machinery and training for the employees. In directly the costs go up. When the costs go up getting less and less people will repair the stuffs unless is really expensive stuffs if not a brand new set are cheaper then repair.
Technologies advance change our daily lifestyles; shopping habit, improve productivity and wasting resources?
Technologies advances make production costs lower to produced but it also killing the retail repair business and wasting resources when people just replace the not functioning stuffs.
Living in the city everyone so busy and so stress. Whatever things can settle fast and get it done will be good. Now days hardly got people learn how to repair home appliances at home. Firstly lack of space in the house and it really take up a lot of time to manage the skill and repair.
In the old days at my father used to teach me to repair home appliances stuffs at home. Beside these my father also teach us (me and my brothers) how to use all kinds of tools in order to fix a problem or repair.
Because of the technologies advance I guess the next generation loss all these kinds of skills.
