1865-? King and Smith patented an improved washer cutter. Patented Oct. 24, 1865, #50,600. Patented by Otis A. Smith and Charles A. King of Middletown, CT. Made by Savage & Smith. The information on the Globe Card states that Globe Manufacturing Co. made this cutter. See patent papers for more information on this cutter. The patent papers show a movable center pin. The cutter below has a fixed center pin. The last paragraph in the patent states it can have either a fixed or movable center pin.

Marked "KING & SMITH'S PAT. OCT. 24 1865. MFG BY SAVAGE & SMITH, MIDDLETOWN, CT."
The cutter below is the same except for the hole in the center. Also, it has a different mark. Rockfall touches Middletown to the southwest. It is also on the Arrowmammett river.
