Traditionally parents arrange their children's marriages. The dates are set and they start to prepare for the ceremony. The Children don't have to worry about anything as the parents and close relatives take care of everything i.e. shopping, arranging the venue, expenditure, invitation cards, food etc.

The dates are arranged for all the traditions to take place on various days, usually within 1-2 weeks. Mehndi would take place one day followed by Nikkah then Rukhsati then Valima. If there are any days between these traditions then it would probably be arranged for family and friends to gather together for the evenings to sing (have karaoke nights) the food may also be served.

The Engagement may take place any time from one month before the marriage to many years before the couple are actually married.
