Oregon Girls Dominate Canadian Tournament
Oregon was represented well at the 2001 War on the Floor II at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, BC. December 14 & 15, 2001.
This was a great experience and well run freestyle tournament. There were four women's tournaments over three days with 250+ girls. The four tournaments were 7-8th grade girls, Novice 9th & 10th grade, Novice 11th & 12th grade and Elite High School. We took two oregon girls and they came home with 5 gold medals and 1 silver between them. I am glad customs didn't stop us we might have had to declare all their hardware!
Na'Tasha Umemoto a 9th grader from Portland Wow'd the crowd in her very first match with a very very quick pin. Na'Tasha wrestled great and took home two golds medals and one silver only losing a close 10-11 match to Amberle Montgomery from Washington State that had the gym on its feet all watching.
Samantha Lang a 10th grader from Tualatin Oregon dominated all her matches by pinning her opponents without letting them score any points. Samantha brought 3 gold medals back to Oregon.
This was a tournament that we will defintely be back to and take a full team to next year.
