Central to Wiccan belief is that the Deity is both male and female, our Lord and Lady, the Goddess and God! I believe that all Goddess are one Goddess, facets of Her personality; and that all Gods are one God, facets of His personality. The God and Goddess are our Mother and Father, and They, Themselves make up the polarities of The One: The One who is within and without, the universe and its whole.
In the beginning there was nothing but open space...eons of nothingness, within and without. Then space moved and from the power of The One, polarities emerged: The Goddess and God. The Goddess and God stretched and gave thanks, and the first Wheel of the Year began.....from Their love came the planets, stars, asteroids, gas, molecules and atoms. From their love came Earth, where The Goddess was the Mother and the God was the Father. They guided all living on Earth, evolving the life forms, from tiny single celled animals, to reptiles, dinosaurs, apes and humans. When They saw that humans had intelligence, they chose Their symbols so that humans can acknowledge their creators. For the Goddess chose the Moon....the planet that controls the tides and sea, and the God chose the Sun.......the life giver. And therefore, humans can now acknowledge their creators...their Mother and Father, by observing the seasons and the phases of the Moon.
THE GODDESS
Hear the words of the Star Goddess, the dust of whose feet are the
hosts of heaven, whose body encircles the universe:
'I who am the beauty of the green earth and the white moon among the stars and
the mysteries of the waters, I call upon your soul to arise and come unto me.
For I am the soul of the nature that gives life to the universe. From
Me all things proceed and unto Me they must return. Let My worship be
the heart that rejoices, for behold - all aspects of love and pleasure are My
rituals. Let there be beauty and strength, power an compassion, honour
and humility, mirth and reverence within you. An you who seek to know
Me, know that your seeking and yearning will avail you now, unless you know
the Mystery: for if that which you seed, you find not within yourself,
you will never find it without. For behold , I have been with you from
the beginning, and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.'
From Starhawk's "The Spiral Dance"
The Goddess is often seen as the triple Goddess - Maiden/Virgin, Mother, Crone. Her symbol is the Moon, which many witches honour, the waxing, full and waning, in that order. The full moon is a sacred time for the Goddess, a time to rejoice femininity, a time to honour the Goddess and ask for her help.
THE GOD
The God of the witches is greatly underplayed in many Wiccan circles,
and I believe since the world was created in polarity, it should be worshipped
in polarity. The image of the Horned God is gentle, tender and comforting,
but the service of the life force. He is the Hunter, He is the Dying
God - but his death is always in a deep, holy, connecting power....he is
the power of feeling. With the Goddess He celebrates sex and sexuality
and all acts of pleasure and love are his rituals.
The Goddess is the Encircler, the Ground of Being; the God is That-Which-Is-Brought-Forth,
her mirror image, her other pole. She is the earth, he is the grain; she
is the all-encompassing sky, he is the sun, her fireball. She is the wheel,
he is the traveler. His is the sacrifice of life to death so that
life may go on. She is the Mother and Destroyer; He is all that is born
and is destroyed. While He is ever dying, He is also ever reborn, every
living.

The Charge of the Goddess
I am the Great Mother, worshiped by all creation and existent prior
to their consciousness. I am the primal female force, boundless and eternal.
I am the chaste Goddess of the Moon, the Lady of all Magic. The winds
and moving leaves sing my name. I wear the crescent Moon upon my brow and
my feet rest among the starry heavens. I am mysteries yet unsolved, a path
newly set upon. I am a field untouched by the plow. Rejoice in me and know
the fullness of youth.
I am the blessed Mother, the gracious Lady of the Harvest. I am clothed
with the deep, cool wonder of the Earth and the gold of the fields heavy
with grain. By me the tides of the Earth are ruled; all things come to
fruition according to my season. I am refuge and healing. I am the life-giving
Mother, wondrously fertile.
Worship me as the Crone, tender of the unbroken cycle of death and
rebirth. I am the wheel, the shadow of the Moon. I rule the tides of women
and men and give release and renewal to weary souls. Though the darkness
of death is my domain, the joy of birth is my gift.
I am the Goddess of the Moon, the Earth, the Seas. My names and strengths
are manifold. I pour forth magick and power, peace and wisdom. I am the
eternal Maiden, Mother of All, and Crone of darkness, and I send you blessings
of eternal love.

The Charge of the God
I am the radiant King of the Heavens, flooding the Earth with warmth
and encouraging the hidden seed of creation to burst forth into manifestation.
I lift my shining spear to light the lives of all beings and daily pour
forth my gold upon the Earth, putting to flight the powers of darkness.
I am the master of the wild beasts wild and free. I run with the swift
stag and soar as a sacred falcon against the shimmering sky. The ancient
woods and wild places emanate my powers, and the birds of the air sing
of my sanctity.
I am also the last harvest, offering my fruits beneath the sickle of
time so that all may be nourished. For without planting there can be no
harvest; without winter, no spring.
Worship me as the thousand-named Sun of creation, the spirit of the
horned stag in the wild, the endless harvest. See in the yearly cycle of
the festivals my birth, death and rebirth-and know that such is the destiny
of all creation.
I am the spark of life, the radiant Sun, the giver of peace and rest,
and I send my rays of blessings to warm the hearts and strengthen the minds
of all.
